View Full Version : how do you guys hide your RD'S

Hi, I was thinking about purchasing a whistler pro 78. I was just wondering is there any way to hide it so its ot visible from the outside of my car or make it as non visible as possible? Thanks

Depends 100 % on your car. Most cars have a pretty sweet spot but it's location differs. Most people like the rear view mirror area.

oh ok I have a brand new honda civic so I'm not sure, you mean mount them over the rear view mirror?

this is NOT to sound rude...but...

common sense goes a long ways.....

if you put it in plain sight...."dash or middle of windshield", it will be very visible. if you put it on the "visor or above the RVM", it will be very much less visible. that is where mine is located...hidden pretty well.

Around the rear view mirror is the best really. Just remember to remove the RD when your not using it!

X2, just remember to take it off the windsheild if ur not using it, ive learned first hand, great way to get ur rd stolen.

If there is a tint strip along the top edge of your windshield, try mounting the RD above the RVM and behind this tint. Keeps it VERY effectively hidden. However -- this WILL hinder laser detection.

Nope. If I'm not in my car, my RD damn sure isn't either.

Nope. If I'm not in my car, my RD *BEEP* sure isn't either.

I never take my V1 down unless i am gonna be somewhere where there will be a lot of people like going to Cincinnati Bengals football games ... Its takien down then and thats about it... Its hardwired high with the suction cups behind the tint strip and the main unit is underneath the strip with a clear field of view

Arashi, why would you leave it up at a bengals game??

I take mine down when I know I'm going to be away from it for more than an hour or so - or I'm in a neighborhood I trust.

I mount mine right below the rear view. I would love to mount it "beside" the mirror but my windshield curves and I can't get it level and straight.

Yes, but it doesnt really matter anyway. Radar detectors are pretty much useless when it comes to laser. By the time your detector warns you of laser, your probably already caught. Instead you should install a laser jammer for real protection.

Hello,

My detector is mounted near the mirror, IMHO the higher you mount it, the better you 'see' radar. I don't really care about lidar detection. Since you will be toast 99.99999999% of the time after it goes off anyway. Yes I know, some cases of a early warning if you get a deflection warning. I see 95% radar and the rest a mixture of Lidar or other means of detection. If you wish Lidar protection, you need a 'parking sensor' to the job.

My detector comes down EVERY time I leave the car or truck. Sure don't wish my V1 leaving me without permission.

Not sure what ya mean........ Is it the X50 or the mount?
I think it looks pretty clean. I would like to position it to the side of
the rvm mirror but it aims to much to the side ( glass curves )....
Not much else I can do.... I thought it was a pretty good
mounting job..... oh well, us old guys try........ :oops:

I do have to say in the 19 years I've been driving, I've never had a ticket in my life so I guess I'm doing something right. :wink:
