Anyone know what the fines are for getting caught in the US for running a radar detector in a commercial vehicle? Is it state specific or are there federal reprocussion?

Well, I'm not sure about the fine but if you get a Beltronics STI and hide it well, you won't have to worry about getting caught. The STI is undetectable to all the RDD's. ( Radar Detector Detectors )

Very few states us VG2's or Spectre's to try and catch truck drivers w/ rd's. There are just too many cars w/ RD's on the road to make it worth their while.

Honestly if I were a driver - I'd use one and just hide it well - also have an escape plan to hide it.

You'd be surprised how many states have VG2s or Spectre's...Most usually have them but they are rarely used in comparison to radar guns

Flashed, it's not really a big deal for some of us truck drivers to use an rd. Like others have said, you must be discreet and be ready to rip it down at a winks notice. Before you get to a wiegh station (scale) or toll booth (sometimes officer will stand near toll booth looking at dashboards on semi's, you need to take down the rd. In terms of RDD's, they are used, buy only in various areas of the states. Indiana is still using VG-2, Virginia still uses VG-2, not sure but D.C. may still use VG-2, Texas is using Spectre III's to catch us truck drivers (this is where a Bel STi comes in handy), and Virginia has Spectre III's on order as we speak. I would like to see some fresh pics of the highway patrol in Texas using the Spectre III to catch truck drivers using rd's.
