Yep, the response time is pretty bad if it's "not" a phone call. If you call them, you'll get an instant answer. I was disappointed with "e" response as well.

Bel and Escort direct is about 48-72 hours. That was better than with V1. It would be great if all three would reply within 24 hours.

chatestickets how do you like the V1 w/ POP2?
Thanks a lot,
that was a quick answer
p.s: I will wait for another two days and see...if there is no response I will give them a call; not a long distance one, but a huge distance one

I definitely see some extra “falsing” on the Valentine 1 v1.8 w/POP versus the V1.7. I’m still testing all 3 units in the “different all/auto/city modes” at the moment. On the V1 though, I definitely use the Logic and Advanced-Logic mode now versus the All-Bogeys mode (unless I’m going through cow country). One of the really great about my testing of all three units at the same time is that, I commute from a very “busy city” area through and into “cow country” when commuting approximately 60 miles each way to the office. I do go through the same 3 major highways in both directions just to get a better feel for each unit. Playing with the different “modes” on each makes you want each one for “certain” areas.
I can say that they each have nice benefits. Luckily, I didn’t incorporate my “name” in relations to my radar detector because otherwise, I might need a new handle since, they’re all pretty good units. All I really have to do is change my avatar at most. :-) I haven’t sent any of the units back like some bone heads who send their extra units back after 2 – 3 days of testing. Get real! With units so close in effectiveness, that would just mean that I’m biased or can’t afford tying up the credit/money and I don’t realize that to really test, you have to have it for a longer period of time.
I rather make additional comparison comments after I’m done testing to make sure I’m not just another person who purchased a unit, who can’t return it anymore and claim it’s the best one out there to justify the expense. IMO, I will say they’re very close in performance and the “features” seem to edge each other out.

Wow, it's amazing that you have access to equipment to emulate being hit by every band of Radar, POP and Laser under multiple weather conditions all in two days. You should hook up with Radar Roy and lend him your guns for testing and contact weather.com folks for weather condition emulation systems sharing. :P

its enough to test it around your town, why in the world would you need to test it against 40 guns when Roy has already done that for you
and it doesnt take a full line of testing radar guns to figure out that the thing is always going off in the city

Not everyone stays in "their" own town(s) all the time. I live a very active lifestyle. This is why I travel so much (2-3x's the national average mileage wise), with my vehicle. If you're always around the same areas, I guess, there's no need for "too much testing." However, this board is for a "broader" community versus a select small group of people.
Roy seems like a good guy and applaud his effort into testing/analysis however, just because he believes that Pepsi is the best, it doesn't mean that I will believe the same. Do you believe in the Heaven's Gate Hale-Bopp Comet as well just because one person believed in it so strongly? If so, you missed it.
Sorry, I'm not into having others think for me exclusively.
How do you test something, without testing it?
In life, I question everything.
I agree with you...
You need at least at minum a week to test something that is real life effected...you dont get the same traffic situation twice...and when you get 3 units at the same time (and they are very close in performance) you need a lot of time to play with.
Keep us updated...btw did you notice any improvments in range in the V1 with pop...X-band for example :)

V1 Dave,
That was pretty fast...
I still have no reply from them...I wil resend them my question now
or maybe the problem is that they have a FAQ and mine is not in their list...so they have to consult with someone 8)
One week later nor reply
I did send them just another email...should I start bombarding their mail server
Today I received my reply
Here it is:
Dear Sir:
Thanks for your email. You don't need to do any upgrade regarding the bands as there has been no change on the V1's coverage. I'm not sure what kind of radar they are using in your country, but POP is on K and Ka only here. Is it radar for sure or could it be laser, which can be tough to pick up?
Cordially,
Mr. X

------------------------------------
Important: I did send an email to them at sale@vale..... and I received my reply in LESS then a day....using their web sait to ask them question didnt give me any replies. So if anyone wants to ask them something send an direct email using yahoo, hotmail...or your email client.
THe answer to my email means that the V1 range is 10.500GHz to 10.550GHz and so on like it is writen on their web page now...not just 10.525GHz like they used to write in the older user manuals and web page...same thin apllies for K and KU band.

BTW,
What is the RD situations in Germany....still legal to use, but if the catch you you can get a fine of 20Euro....or it has changed???

Hi,
no, since 2002 it's not legal in germany. 75€ fine, 4 points in the record and they take away the RD. (After receiving 18 points, you'll lose your licence) So better use a consealed one.

If you are ready to buy a V1, I would reccomend buying one of the opened boxes for like $370 , then when its outdated I know you can sell it on e-bay, I dont think I have ever seen a 1.7 & above sell for less then 360$[/quote]

It's $360 + shipping for a returned unit. Which worked out to $364.87 for me.

Yup, call them on the phone and tell them you've heard that returned units can be bought at a discount. Since we are in between vacations, you may have to wait a bit though. When I ordered I was told within 30 days after a vacation they get a whole bunch of returns but outside of that they get 1 or 2 a week.

You know, on a car forum I read, a cop pulled over some kids with an RMR (well, I assume it was an RMR, it was at the very least a very similar type of device). Since at the time detector discussions were big on the forum, the cop told the kids he'd let them go with a warning if they let him test his radar on their jammer. Of course they said ok, and he said it did in fact work...only about 3 seconds after he had gotten a lock.

Maybe it detected the radar 3 sec after a lock?
RMR lowest return rate? Yeah... sure! I know they refuse their "30 day guarantee" often.
V1 may have the lowest return rate, saving the 30-day trial stuff. Ie broken detectors under warranty. The V1 seems to be a very robust piece of kit.
If only I had paid more for a V1 instead of that Bel...

It was a couple years ago, but I'm pretty sure he said it would jam his radar about 3 seconds after a lock.

After a lock... well... that's good?
I don't see how the RMR products can jam the radar at all... there isn't anything inside that can do that.
I think whoever said that is pulling a "Jayson Blair" on us...
marlinspike
02-16-2005, 09:03 PM
No it's not good, I'm just saying that it's interesting it locked [edit I meant it's interesting that it eventually jammed]. And I don't know who Jason Blair is, but I'm assuming you're saying the cop is suspect? He isn't. Maybe they were using an active jammer I don't know, I just remember it was a portable unit.

RMR makes JUNK and unfortunately I was one of their victims years ago. How our government allows them to do business is beyond me

The radar industry is full of clowns proclaiming their unit is the best ever.

Yeah but RMR products don't work at all that was the problem...
Jayson Blair (http://www.google.ca/search?q=jayson+blair&sourceid=mozilla-search&start=0&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:unofficial) was that guy who wrote briefly for the New York Times (?) and was "inventing" interviews...
I think they are allowed to do business because most goverment agencies are happy that they can nab RMR users.
Plus the FCC has been on their ass for at least a decade now, but since the RMR products don't work, they can't do anything!
marlinspike
02-17-2005, 02:26 PM
Oh, I remember Jayson Blair now. Ok...so is there another product similar to the RMR? Cause this cop is actually a cop and is honest.
