View Full Version : GOL V1 Only Test

I know this has been suggested before, but how about a V1-only GOL test?

It was interesting to see (in the August 07 test) the differences between the 3.863 and 3.813. How about taking it to the next level?

1. Maybe test 2 of each version to show any manufacturer variances. 3.813, 3.826 and 3.863 seem to be the most popular versions. Maybe throw a 1.7 in the mix.

2. Maybe test each of them in All Bogeys, Logic and Advanced Logic modes. It would be interesting to see the range differences between X, K and the 3 Ka in each mode.

3. Maybe test each of them with POP on and off.

4. Maybe test Ku.

5. Maybe a straight line test and a around the curve test.

There are lots of things to test with just V1s.

According to Valentine, there isn't any difference in detecting abilities between any of the versions of the 1.8 platform. The differences that were shown in the last GOL test can be attibuted to (amongst other things) manufacturing variance.

Instead of testing 3 V1's and only 1-2 of each the other different manufacturers, test all manufacturers evenly.

That has been done multiple times...

A V1-only test has not been done yet. And there are many V1 owners on this board - more than any other detector I believe.

I think he is getting tired. Check his signature at the bottom.

I stopped testing too after i found out which RD is the best overall performer.
Honestly, it's time consuming to do those tests(I'm not talking about your test ES13Raven).

We did a lot of radar detector testing this year, so we are all a little burned out.

I think we are going to again refocus our efforts back to laser. Veil needs to be put through it's paces, then we have the retail LI, Blinders updated retail units, the new Lidatek is coming, as well as Escort. Should be good times.

Maybe somewhere down the line then.

While I the radar tests were very useful.. I feel like they've been tested to death already. All that really has yet to be seen is laser tests of the new units you mentioned. I usually only read topics now that relate to laser countermeasures...

I agree the effort to be focused on laser.

STi  After seeing those AUG test results. :?:

BTW, please correct me if I am wrong but didn't the V1 actually do better with bands "on" POP "on", rather than bands "on" POP "off"?

Barely, but because there were only 3 runs... it looks as though pop on or off (with all band on) doesn't make much of a difference.

I personally leave mine off to avoid j-outs... I'm not sure if it actually helps... but I've only had one since I've owned it.

happya$$,
Just curious, why sell the .858?? According to Michael B. it's among the most sensitive V1's.

I still think the STi is best regardless of those individual test. In my opinion STi is best, V1 is very good too. I think you can't go wrong choosing either if you want the best. Look at ALL of the GOL test, not just one or one event.

Here lies the problem. The is no best to every person and best means different things to different people. What I thought was best has changed. Best to me meant the RD with the highest sensetivity, which according to all the GOL testing is still the V1, although the 9500i is neck and neck. After owning both the STi and the V1 (Ver. 3.826), I now prefer the STi. When my STi goes off, I can pretty much guarantee it's police radar. I get some false alarms, but not a ton. Before getting bashed for "false alarms", we all know they aren't false and are true radar, but in this instance false means non police radar. My particular STi has better performance on 35.5 and close performance on k band. In the Washington, DC area 35.5 is the most common type of radar. There is still some k band, but not a great deal. I now actually prefer the quietness of the STi over my V1. While the V1's automute features do a good job, it's still way too chatty. I've been a V1 zealot since 2002, but I do like my STi. Just an opinion.

I've said this before guys. Just because a few units of a specific revision are hot doesn't really mean that is a superior revision.

Case and point: people that have these horrible V1's that can't pick up anything (or so they say). If it is fact true, it only helps prove what I have been saying all along. Should we label all of the other detectors of the same revision as crap simply because this specific unit was flawed?

Exactly my point.............

the same goes for assuming that a 3.XXX is the best simply because a few members have had good results with them.

I won't annoy you with my statistics lecture like I have in the past.

Those are my two cents.

Looking forward to it!

I haven't been hit by laser in a while since I don't drive on the GSP daily anymore and the officers in the 'burbs near me use Ka 34.7, some K and rarely X.

I would like to at least consider getting laser defense, even though none of the 3 separate hits with laser resulted in a ticket (was definitely going a decent amount above the speed limit on the first hit - nothing crazy but enough to get a ticket at least - leading me to think that by the time the laser gun actually locked onto my speed I had already slowed down enough).

I would love to get a retail LI and use one of those Cheetah wireless kits so it can easily be removed since I may get a new car anytime in the next 0 - 24 months.

What does it take to join a GOL test? From what I could tell before they're in OH, which I always find myself in that state for some reason. I can also offer up a SR7, V1 3.863, and original solo (you'd have to spring for the batteries, lol). I think it would be fun to do for a weekend.
