hi, i am currently located in australia where radar detectors are illegal. I have done a little research and am interested in buying the STi as it is not detectable in the states. I am not sure if the rdd's in aus are the same as in the states and therfore not being able to detect it.
Any thoughts?

They're the same, except with a different name.

I believe the Spectre used in North America is the Stalcar in Australia.

Anyway, the Sti is undetectable. Period.

ok i am aware that the STi doesnt have Ku & X band. Is this a problem as im not sure if these bands are used in australia?

You're correct that the STi does not cover Ku at the moment, but it does cover X. I haven't been to Australia (yet), but I think it's just K and Ka there. You might try adding "Australia" to the title of your post to get more informed answers.

Bel STi for AUS market is called Bel XR.This two RDs are identical,except on BelXR you cannot enable X-band,
wich you don't need in AUS and Ku-band also,it's not used in AUS
You only need K,Ka and Laser for AUS
BUT,if you can afford Bel STi-R,go for it.It's a remote installation RD with
10 selectable Ka-band sections.Because of that STi-R will perform better than Bel STi(or BelXR)

BTW,if you allready set you mind on Beltronics STi(XR)or maybe even STi-R :wink: ,it would be a good idea to buy from authorized dealer
like dontgetcaught.au or neltronics.au

another thing you might want to note. the STi in the US is about US$450 (about AU$500). The STI XR (AU/NZ version) is AU$800.

With the AU/NZ version you'll have "local" warranty support, but with one from the US you'll probably have to send it back to the US for any warranty. So it'll be + postage and handling when you buy it, to get it to Aus then + postage and handling everytime you need to send it back
