I'm on a budget, so does anyone have any idea on how the Cobra Pro 9780 is compared to the Whislter Pro 73... Which one would be better?? I know,, i would like to go with the X50 but can't!!!! THANKS
No doubt out of those two go with the Whistler. Cobra's are terrible.

Have heard good things about the Whistler Pro 58 as well. The Pro 73 has a few more options I belive but of the two I would do the 73 nothing at all against the 58 just a personal preference on what I like.

Before you buy either, check out the bel units in that price range. They are definitely superior. IMHO

Bel Vector 895 is a very good detector for the features and the money. It did very well as SML this year. Whistlers are alright too, but definitely stay away from Cobra. I used to own a Cobra, and I became enraged by how much better my RX65 performed. My experience with Cobra is that Ka band alert = cop in sight and my speed already locked.

The only difference between the Pro58 and Pr073 is the voice alert on the Pro73.
Performance is the same.

im in kinda the same boat you are, but im trying to decide if the whistler is enough of a detector for me or if i need to shell out the cash for an x50, another detector you might want to check out is the vector 995, i was all ready to buy one until sml 2005 showed it didn't detect ka pop which ruled it out for me because pop is used in my area, but if that isnt a concern for you the 995 is amazing for the money
find out whats used heavily where you'll be driving, for me low power ka stalker radar is what i have to battle with, and the whistlers ka isn't perfect, so thats the only reason why one isnt sitting on my dash right now, but if you deal with mostly k and the more detectable ka band radar guns than i would say not much can beat the whistler,

The only thing about Bel is,,, i own a Pro-55,,, I'm not happy with it at all,,, i feel it was a total waste of money,,, So i'm scared of trying another Bel detector. The Bel Pro-55 gives a lot of false alarms, and doesn't pick up until i'm right on top of the Cops. So wouldn't all Bels be similar??
The newer detectors are far better in all brands about falses. Bel is a good detector. Same can be said for the Escort, Valentine, Whistler. Just stay away from the Cobra. The Whistler is a great detector if you are on a buget the filtering may not be as good as the Bel, Escort, and Valentine but they cost a little more. I know its a hard decision

Steve The Bel Pro 55 that i own is one of the newer models. Roy gave it a 4 star. Thats right under the Pro 65 with a 5 star,, But the Pro 55 i regret buying because of its performance is really bad. I would not recommend it to anyone.. Not even my worst enemy....

the 995 is supposed to outperform the pro 55 slightly, the 995 is basically the same hardware as a pro 65, where the pro 55 is a different unit. as for falsing and preformance i don’t think a whistler is going to be any better than a pro 55, the 995 might not even be much better, if you really are not happy with the 55 than maybe all the hype about having to buy a big 3 is true after all. looks like your stuck in the same situation im in, i dont wanna blow 300 bucks on a radar detector either, but from what everyone says the lower cost models just arent worth it

There is a reason why there is the big 3 and why they cost more but do not think you have to buy one to get good protection.
Some of the lower end models do well and for the most part you would have plenty of time to slow down if you got hit with a radar.
The old saying goes you get what you pay for.
I run a V1 and a Pro58 and while the V1 is a better unit as far as detection and filtering I still would recomend the Whistler Pro series for some one who can not afford or does not want to spend $300 or more for a detector.
Plus the customer service as Whistler has been outstanding and that can be a big benefit!
Some protection is better than NO protection!

You are not blowing $300 on a TOP 3 , it is just a solid investment. Im sure others would agree with me. My two TOP 3 RD's has saved my a** countless times. They have proved their worth.

I had a pro 55 and it was horrible. I had the same results. I thought it would be close to the rx65 and I got falses and almost no KA coverage. It has me concerned about Bel also.

If you read reviews on Shoping.com or Bitzrate.com people explain how bad the PRO 55 FALSES. When i bought my RX-65 i aslo was considering the Pro RX-55 but with all the bad reviews i saved my money and bought a Bel Rx-65. It has phenominal filtering, the X50 is a little better but both were very close. I personaly like my X50. It seems to have better range.
