View Full Version : STi hardwired above RVM

I have my STi hardwired above the RVM right now, but I was wondering if that would be enough to avoid visual detection. I do not have tinted windows, and my visor is set up so that the detector will not be able to see the road when the visor is up. Anyone know how likely it is for cops in VA to see it?
Also in case they do see it, I plan on taking it down while they are pulling me over (and let them see me do it). I would then be waiting holding the detector and say something along the lines of: "Im sorry officer, I completely forgot these were illegal, here you go" and hand it over. Of course, I would hand over my 10 year old whistler instead of the STi. This seems a bit risky though, so I was wondering if anybody here has actually pulled it off.

The best STI stealth possible: on the visor with a visor clip, covered with a cd holder and full of cds in the holder AND limo tint behind the front seats and dark tint for front seats... my case

I would agree with hiding it on the visor between something, but keep in mind that by having it low on the dash right in front of you it may be better hidden from behind and easier to throw under the seat as opposed to reaching up where everyone can see what you are doing. Higher usually is better but in the case of stealth I would say lower is better...

But I can see ANYTHING that's on everybody's dashboard, trucks excepted  , and I ain't cop at all as cops enjoy looking into MVs while cruising along, while "things" inside a cd holder is extremely usual and LEGAL!!! Every 3rd MV is got a cd holder with cds stuffed in it, you're not saying that cops now are gonna suspect any MV that runs a cd holder around the sun visor, are you?

I agree with you that hiding it in the visor with a cd case or something is optimal - what I meant was that lower is better than sitting by the RVM where it can be seen through the glass from way behind...and the LEO can see you reaching up to get it...thanks!

By the RVM as in full view of everybody, with no tinted windows at all, in illegal areas, you're just asking for trouble... in this case, YES, if the visor logistic ain't possible, go for the dash one but you're losing a lot of radar range!

But that's part of what we have already discussed that by the sun visor is the best stealth possible, cd holder or any other holder... the cd holder with cds in it, everybody is got one of this in the car by the sun visor, very popular with the new generation, cops are not gonna pull over every car with a cd holder by the sun visor when with the other one it's up to them to figure out what is it for

Yes I guess you're right - being in a legal RD state I'm not used to worrying about it. On the dash by itself would be pretty noticeable. As long as it's hidden up high you'd be ok. With a cheap-o to give away if busted! You could roam ebay and buy some cheap RD's for a few dollars to have on hand to give away...

Experience comes with the territory :) I wish I had no incentives to be so experienced at this particular subject, but what else can I do

I believe a stealthy installation is the only way to go if detectors are illegal in your area.

I live close to you.
What kind of car are you driving?
Maybe we can figure out where to hide it.
Here is the link to the original install thread.
