My X50 does the same thing but i noticed that After it felt to the floor, i started a topic on this and you can listen to the little hum. i noticed that when you put the display in fully dark mode the little hum disapears and if you put the display on min and med brightness the little hum will not be as strong as on max brightness. Heres the link im talking about http://www.radardetector.net/viewtopic.php?t=3648&highlight=

When theres no noise around can you ear it without puting your ear close to it? Try to put the display to fully dark and listen, mine didnt had any sound when it was in fully dark. People said to me that their X50s/RX65s are leaky no sound at all so its not ok. Can you try these tests and post with what ur coming? im sure your experiencing the same problem.

My has made the same hum since it was new....and I bought mine from Escort Direct...I think that this normal hum sound is either just like a computer running. Or has something to do with getting the display power to light the LEDs :D

Is your RD hardwired? If so I would make sure you have a good ground. Sounds to me (if it is hardwired) that you may not have a good solid ground. I have worked with all sorts of audio equipment in vehicles (worked in broadcasting) and usually a hum like that is caused by faulty ground. It could also be an internal problem with grounding causing the display to throw noise into the amplifier section for the speaker. I would check the vehicle ground first though..........just a thought.

Mine isnt hardwired but your explanation makes sense, could i had problems with the cig lighter cord?

Yeah I think so. For instance, the ground for the cig plug is the outer sleeve of the jack. If that is dirty inside the jack it may not be providing a solid enough ground. Or, the actual cable connection FROM the cig lighter jack to the vehicle harness could have a poor ground as well. Have you tried your detector in another vehicle? That would be my first step in trouble shooting if it might be a grounding problem.

I tried it in 4 vehicles with very clean jacks and i always had the problem. Maybe the cord has a problem? I received a letter from Escort tonight and they want 49$ to open it, i hope it wasnt because of a faulty cord.
