This am on my morning drive I looked up to find the left portion of my 9500is digital window was black (it was fine at startup and before this point of looking up at it). At the time I had the satellite filter off. All that showed were the letters MPH to the far right. No numbers for my speed nor H for my mode. I unplugged it and replugged it in and it returned to normal.

I also noticed that after a day and night of driving with the GPS Filter off, all but 1 of my TrueLock locations have been erased. I already had GPS connection (as it was registering my speed) when I put the filter back on - and it confirmed it by saying Satellite Aquired. Then it wasnt till about 10minutes later that I approached my first locked out location. It wasnt locked, and alerted as normal. The next 3 different locations (all a good ways from eachother) were unlocked as well. The only time my satellite icon began spinning was an automatic door on the NAVY Base. Thats it. WTF is up?

Should I return it for a new one? I believe Im still within 30 days.

You have to send it in to Escort to have it fixed:

All Blue ones? Should I get a red then?
ESCORT is just sending me a brand new one....do I need to worry that another new one will be the same?

DJ - I saw that vid, I just wasnt sure I had the same issue since mine just started, and went back to normal after pulling the plug. Do you think the TrueLock not working is a related issue?

They fixed the second one and sent it back to me. This one has worked perfectly ever since. This problem is surely unrelated to anything with Truelock.

The RED models didnt have this issue? Is there a firmware number I can check to be sure its up to date? I REALLY don't want to send this back twice. I went through this crap with my X50 and it was at ESCORT for fixes more than in my car.

The red models do not have this issue, their screen is not split like the blue models. There is no firmware number to check.

so theres no way to be sure a new model (blue) won't have the same problem? What do you suggest?

i have a blue model and no problems here, but who knows for later.

If you don't want to take any chances get red, for me blue is worth the chance.

Hi RadarKid,

The red display models don't have this problem, and the problem is intermittent on the blue models. Unplugging and replugging in power fixes the problem for the time being. Escort has a fix for the problem on the models with the blue displays. I am not sure, but I think that the fix is done in the software and makes a change in how the electronics control and "talk" to the display. The fix, of course, would be free since your RD is new and under warranty.

Regarding the red or blue display, this really is just your personal preference. Personally I prefer red displays since red displays don't affect my night vision even though the blue display is a bit easier for your eyes to focus on and read at night.

:)

Thing is, I PREFER BLUE displays...with the ability to adjust the brightness or leave it on AUTO brightness, its really fine on my eyes (the smartcord is a different story and I plan to darken it)....and I think Escorts Blue choice is one of the advantages over the V1. They're going to send me a brand new detector in the box...I just would be more comfortable knowing it wasnt going to happen again...thats the only reason I'm considered changing it to a RED display.

Sucks

Although I am a red display guy, I must admit that I do love the blue display on my Pro78. I am probably going to try a blue X50 next since I haven't tested how the X50's Auto mode works compared to the Vectors. Anyway, considering that you are sending your 9500i back for its display problem and since Escort now has a fix for the blue display issue, I would think that they will make darn sure that the new blue 9500i they are sending you has the fix for the blue display problem. Let us know how the new 9500i they send you performs!

so then if I make a point of having them "check" the new one off the shelf to make sure it has the "fix" you think they can do that ahead of time? or is there only a FIX once its starts failing?

Hi RadarKid,

You should be able to ask if their service department will open up and check the new 9500i ahead of time. Basically all they have to do is plug it in, hook up the USB port, and check to be sure that your new 9500i has the latest firmware which has the fix for controlling the blue display. If it doesn't then the tech dude can simply and immediately flash it. Note that the 9500i box when you receive it probably won't be shrink wrapped since they opened it up to check it out.

hope you're right, I included a note on the issue in the case, and asked them to verify the latest firmware fix would be on the new one...it ships back tomorrow.

EDIT : Dropped it off at UPS today...sux...UPS ground from where I live will probably be 2-3 days before they get it and overnight air it back. That means today, Sat, Sun, Monday, Tuesday, probably Wednesday before I get it back.. Ugh.
I hate driving without it.

how quick was the turnaround for replacement for those of you that sent one in before to ESCORT?

MEM-TEK
06-20-2008, 11:48 AM
They had my RDs for 5 and 7 days. This was pretty quick. Belscort normally quotes a turn-around time of 10 days. That is good business sense -- quote the max, then the customer is happy when the turn-around time is shorter.

yea but mine isnt a troubleshoot & repair...

it should be just receiving the malfunctioning one, and throwing a new 9500i in the mail next day air.

You and I would think that this should be quicker, but honestly I really don't know how they handle returns.

Michael Kennedy just gave me a call back. They're due to receive my 9500i tommorrow or Tuesday and send out my new one. He claimed that the 9500i (BLUE) that'd I'd received must've been one that was in the warehouse and hadnt been updated.

He promised the new one would be verified before they sent it out.

He also said that the engineers say that, although its been "corrected", the original problem of the screen going blank on one side had to do with some funky order of powering it up etc. Like perhaps it was left on, then adjusted some settings, then shut off and repowered on etc.

I don't know....as long as my new one has no issues I'll be happy.

If Michael Kennedy is overseeing this for you then, rest assured, the new blue 9500i you receive will function properly. Likewise, his explanation for the display problem is basically correct without going into the full details which, I am sure, you could care less about anyway as long as your new 9500i functions correctly!

wow. . . thankfully ive got a 5 year extended warranty through car toys, so if this happens, I just hand it to them, and new one on the spot, theyll take care of the other stuff with Escort :)

Lol, my SR7 does every now and again but I know it's because I have a lose solder joint. Just hit the dash hard and it fixes itself. Does the other half get brighter than normal too?
