Its the latest and greatest with integrated "Safety Camera " locations from the Trinity database. Its upgradeable for the latest locations as well right off the internet!! Basically, its the 9500 with Navalert. Does, Speed , redlight and other cameras (integrated into the 9500 Blue detector). No longer a need for separate units. Call Escort, they have it!!
Just called and was told to expect it by Wed or Thursday of next week!!!

REGARDING THE NEW 9500ix:
The ix is blue display only. Same sensitivity, with all the autolearn and database capabilities as the ci. You can upgrade your 9500i to a 9500ix for $99 or half that price if you have the service plan.
Same price as the 9500i blue...all known redlight and speed cameras already installed. Much larger memory. Autolearn is a new feature as well. It'll lock out the same falses it encounters around the 3rd time it encounters. They can be undone if you wish. You can have them updated if you wish to pay for the subscription.

Again, you brought it up.
Your not ignorant, you were just excited to use your 9500I and jumped into the TrueLock feature full throttle. I don’t blame you, just that Escort made a RD that didn’t come with a good explanation of TrueLock for the beginner. I also blame my self for making such a complex way of looking at TrueLock (No Risk, Low Risk & high Risk).

It doesn't show on their site, BUT you have to call. I ordered it on Saturday (06/21/2008) when I saw the ad in the latest August 2008 Car and Driver about Page 15 on a full page ad; This unit will allow you to update the the software and firmware on the site as well (something I dont think we can do with the 9500 currently??) BUT can be done with the remote one!! Call them they will tell you all about it!!

MattThe software I use to update the RLC database on my 9500ci, does not look 9500ci specific. When you open the software, the opening message is "Searching for a Passport detector". It also has a software update button.
I we 9500i owners are able to upgrade our RDs for free, to include the autolock and GPS database features that the 9500ci has, that would be truly amazing! :D My guess though is that there will be some fee involved.

Agreed, BUT nuttins for free!!! The ix has the Autolearn of the ci so the truelock may no longer be necessary as well. I am sure its on there, BUT few use it, so perhaps the Autolearn will displace that.
I remember when I first purchased my 9500 i and was basically told or led to believe that the firmware would be "internet" upgradeable. This has not happened?? Maybe it wil in the future with a simple plug and go through a USB.. The ix will at least allow this and also access to the trinity Database for the cameras. Here in Chicago, the cameras are starting to pop up out of the woodwork, particularly in the city!!

As for the initial release of the 9500ix, it will only be blue and prob be 499. The red will prob be still 449, but not upgraded, no redlight/speed database and no autolock out, but I can be wrong.

Escort has been lying about software upgrades for years!! Ever since the first 8500 came out, they've claimed that their detectors are "Software Upgradeable" what they neglect to mention is that any such "upgrades" require a hefty fee or in the case of pop detection an upgrade to the x50 etc...

I'm tempted to upgrade my 9500i for the autolearn and traffic cameras feature. I like the fact that in autolearn mode, it will automatically unlock a signal if it is not present anymore. I wonder how accurate the redlight camera alerts will be in nyc with all the intersection and blocks.

Actually software updates, had more to do with new radar threats coming out, which we all know is BS since, there are no new threats including Ku, which most top line detectors have anyway.
The Database is not really an software update but a new feature.
I equate this to the new Iphone, is now has 3G and GPS, the old one didn't, those are new features not an software update.

So now that the news has broken and that I've been given the ok to discuss, yes there is a new dash model of the 9500i coming out, the 9500ix!

I'm wondering though if the 9500ix will go off a lot more in nyc when I'm across the block from a camera on a different avenue since it will alert just based on proximity whereas the Navalert states the "driver is advised of only cameras on the road they are driving along, thereby negating false alerts".

My 9500ci alerts based on speed. My understanding is that it attempts to give the driver a 10 sec warning, so the faster I am driving, the further away the RLC can be that it warns me of. Some warnings are as much as 1200 ft, so this can be pretty far off the freeway sometimes. It also gives a little direction arrow.

The professor says:
I'm no patent attorney, but:
According to Wikipedia, for patents that were in force by June 8, 1995, the patent term is either 17 years from the issue date or 20 years from the earliest claimed filing date, the longer term applying.
I believe Valentine Research's earliest "directional origin" patent (5083129) was filed February 25, 1991, and granted January 21, 1992. This would mean that this particular patent would expire on February 25, 2011 since the longer term applies. Valentine Research has another "directional origin" patent (5151701) that would expire in Oct. 2011.

I honestly don't know if I'll do the trade-up.....
My local driving situation will require that I disable AutoLearn, but that's not a big loss to me at all.
I'd also not really benefit at all from the Trinity linkup, as my Cheetah GPS-Mirror already takes care of that (and I'm very reluctant to give up the mirror, since it offers me a field-of-view which I prefer). That's no biggie to me, either, though.
I guess I'm just on-the-fence with the fact that it's only available in "blue" LED format. Hopefully, Escort will also introduce a "red" LED version, which I prefer.
The ability to use the software for other items (adjusting/fine-tuning TrueLock, etc.) would definitely be nice - although I must really poo-poo  Escort for claiming this capability on the 9500i, and then essentially scrubbing that and making us upgrade to the ix !
I'd say that was false-advertising outright, if the 9500i can't live up to such original claims, and I'd bet that the BBB would have a decent case on their hands with that false claim, if it turns out to be such! :(
Of course, that's based solely on current rumors (in this thread), and I guess we'll have to wait-out to see what comes of that.

Escort didn’t technically make false advertising/claims about the USB, they are utilizing it, and all they are doing is having you send it in to ad the x feature to the 9500I making it an xi.
Escort is pretty smart when it comes to how they word things, just enough to make us believe something but not enough to paint them selves into a corner.

2. trade it in at escort :Trade In Program Details:

had an 8500 that my brother let me pretty much have for the past 2 years..lol..
Got a new car and sold him my old one and included the radar detector (it was actually his it was an extended borrow..)
Like stated above will be shipped middle of july.. stated that as orders are coming in it extends the wait..
The extended warranty is 29.95 (3 yr warranty) as stated by the rep, BUT for 39.95 you get the warranty and 1 year of database updates...
Hoping that gives enough time for someone to figure out a way of "sharing" updates/info....

I’m guessing the upgrade to an xi is not some huge project. A new unit has the blue display and it still sells for $499, so im sure it’s something they originally planed to just sell as an upgrade to the 9500I and have us do our selves.
I believe Escort made a conscious decision to have people send in there units rather than deal with buying a kit than trying to upgrade over the net the first time. Some of us aren’t as computer savvy, I know I would prefer for Escort to do it the first time.
I’m also willing to bet they are putting some type of incription so Jim can hack it.:D

there arent enough "speed cameras" etc around me to make much of a difference, and putting autolearn function in there sketches me out...I understand it removes itself if the false is no longer there after a while, but still. I don't want to rely on it being accurate.
Had there been updates like added sensitivity or arrows like the V1, I'd be all over it.
But $99 to upgrade my new 9500i isnt worth it to me.

Me too. I purchased it with in the last 30 days, so now it's a tough decision whether to send it back or not. On a side note, I purchased the 9500i directly from escorts site. When I received the detector, there was a small amount of what seemed to be grease on the power button. The mart cord was also connected to the detector in the box, and i'm not sure if that's normal either. Now that I think about it...I should probably return it.

Send it back and tell them to send you an ix for the price difference assuming there is if you got the red display. Ask them if they will cover your return shipping costs. When I sent mine in for the "ramp-up" fix last year, they covered shipping both ways.

Every Bel product I have bought is never perfect, even if the box is and shrink wrapped. I am a perfectionist. I think the Escorts and Bels are hand packed, the little grease is probably nothing, might of been tested before sent out or from manufacturing.

It actually has the blue LED's so it's the same price as the ix. Since I purchased it with in the last 30 days, they'll either replace it or give me a refund with shipping label. So i'll keep the one I have or get a refund and purchase an ix after the first few probable bugs are ironed out.
It was definitely nicely shrink wrapped. I figured the grease got on it when it was being tested, but when you spend $500, it's a little unsettling to have to wipe the item down with a cloth when first taking it out of the box! I'm glad everyone else also had the smart cord plugged in when received.
Seems to work well though, so I won't complain too much. Now I just need to decide if the new features of the ix will make a big enough difference in LI, NY to warrant upgrading.

Yeah it probably was new. I don't have to pay for return shipping - Escort already Emailed me a return label. The return window ends in 6 days, so I better get it out. With my luck though, i'd probably end up getting a lemon ix.
Towns within about 5 miles don't seem to have speed cameras as far as I know, but if I travel 10+ miles they're jam packed with them. A small fee to update anually would probably be worth it.

They won't have any interest in arrows until 2011.
my point exactly. if they had the option, they'd have arrows....

+1.
This is yet another reason I won't be going for the ix, just yet, from my i.
There's no such costs associated with the Cheetah GPS-Mirror. :)
Upgrade fee, monthly fees... I think I'll wait on that one too to see if they do away with all of it due to customer complaints.
BTW TSI- Congrats on your promotion to "Power User" ;)

after another conversation with Escort CS today, I was informed that Escort has told customer service not to mention the $99 "upgrade" fee to upgrade your 9500i to an "ix" because that price isnt set in stone. It's likely that the fee will be lower I was told - I reiterated the fact that many owners who recently purchased their 9500i's were angry over a charge like $99 to upgrade a unit that they just bought so recently.
Again - the price has not been set yet to upgrade the i to an Xi....so if anyone gets a concrete price let us know
PS - I thought it was funny that when we discussed the arrow function for the 9500ci and xi (and the V1 patent came up) she said ESCORT really has "no interest in the arrows"
I think that it would be a very good idea for them to lower the upgrade price. #1 I don't think more than a few hundred people would do it in the first place. #2 those few hundred are the vocal bunch of radar nerds who read this forum, we can create lots of bad press for them if disgruntled. :)

I really don't pay attention to "user titles" - I was recently shocked to see that I'd been upgraded to "four star" status on the LI Forums. No idea why, either! :)

only "PowerUsers" get in the RD Heaven.....
wouldnt it be great if the titles gave you huge discounts on detector purchases? Like 50% off? :)

Damn, this site has better intel than the CIA!!!
People in the know were sworn to secrecy and the reps were not to discuss this new product at all until its release....
So now that the news has broken and that I've been given the ok to discuss, yes there is a new dash model of the 9500i coming out, the 9500ix!
They have upgraded the memory of the new detector for the autolearn and the speed enforcement camera database. I have a production unit that will ship next week for my review for the site, blog and buyers guide.
and to think that this came from me, a NEWBIE!!!!

Come on. You've had it for at least an hour. Where's the multi-page detailed review with videos and pictures of the internal circuit board with side-by-side comparisons to the 9500i antique model? I guess I'm rushing you a bit. How about by tomorrow? :)
Seriously, though. I'm jealous.

Dude, there are those of us who HAVE to work to buy these things!!! Same exact packaging as my 9500i so there's no trailblazing there. The keyboard (is that what its called) on top is the same as my 9500 and I haven't had a chance to review the functions yet!! Patience my friend, patience, Its not plug and play like my V-1, there's a learning curve there!!!
does anyone know the average time it would take to send in my 9500i unit to upgrade to 9500ix (including shipping time). I won't hold you up to it, I'm just looking for an guesstimate. Thx!

I just sold my V1 for the same price I bought it for, so now I have funds to order this model!
The only issue I'm currently facing is that the 9500ix only comes in blue... SIGH. The Honda Si's gauges all use red lighting.. :( (However, if you know some aftermark way to turn them a similar blue I'd really love to know.)
The Autolearn feature has me very curious as I was always a bit hesitant to lock out a frequency before. Now if it does it for me in a somewhat intelligent and responsible manner... that's neat-o. :)
I had gotten a 9500i when the were first coming around and so I was wondering what major improvements and minor tweaks have shone through since then? As for the database, I don't know how interested I'd be in that (although the OPTION is nice), as I don't have to worry about speedcams and I am a bit skeptical of the accuracy of the speed trap listings.
I'm still really tempted to order a 9500ix on payday though. :P

Not IN MY Hands, its in the box in my hands. Just playing with it now!!! The redlight camera identifier worked very well in the city last night. We don't have speed cameras here. Haven't compared it to my V-1 or the 9500 yet as far as laser or radar performance yet, BUT will provide a full report. Just waiting on Roy too (he got his last week). The manual says that the Autolearn feature will identify signals (alerts) and memorize them and then you can use Truelock and lock out falses after three exposures to them. How it works, I dont know?? The manual says the Truelock is manual(like the 9500) and the Autolearn (the unit does it automatically) after 3 passes thru an area where the GPS and the false are then stored into memory as falses. This goes back to our old debate, is it real or is it Memorex??? Note too that the ix allows you to disable the autolearn if you dont trust it. Thats cool for those who dont like the truelock or the autolearn . Basically, its very user friendly and can be disabled if you dont want a feature like the autolearn. Note that there are also arrows for the redlight (dont have speed cameras here) but there are arrows for the redlight cameras(just like the Ci)
Oh, by the way, I am going to upgrade the 9500. It going to cost $100.00 and take about two weeks turnaround time for the BOTH the hardware and the software updates!!!! Gotta have the back-up artillery!!!

It came quicker than I thought. As for the upgrades, they have not annnouced a formal time to do this yet right?

x2........
it must be the newer version that has reliable truelock...
:p
It still has the Truelock (defeatable or optional at users expense) PLUS the Autolearn (which from the manual appears to be an "Automatic Truelock." Three passes and it locks it in, BUT again, you can elect NOT to use that as well.

I was told by the guy whom I ordered from that I was the first to call (he was surprised) and order and I also got the optional database upgrades yada yada yada. Sucker for Escort I guess!! Anyway, am being told that August 2008 is the "intended" date for the upgrades. No firm date, BUT that may move up too into July 2008?? Remember, I got my CarMag on Thursday and called & ordered within 1 day of seeing the AD (in print) . Its was not on the web until last week so I had at least a 10-15 day jump on my order too. :) :)

Well I ordered my 9500i in late May, called them today and according to the sales rep I will get a free upgrade to the 9500ix since I ordered through them. Was told that it will not beavailable until August and I can keep using the 9500i until it releases. :)

I'm curious about the auto-unlearn feature. Supposedly, after one pass without the signal present, it will automatically unlearn. I was thinking that when grocery stores close, I assume their doors stop sending falses, and if so, it will unlearn them.
Also, will it auto-unlearn a manually locked signal versus an auto-learned one? I guess that will be harder to test unless you have a radar gun handy or a cooperative LEO. :)

Honestly, haven't gotten that far with it. All I can say is that I am thankful everyday that I did NOT buy the Ci which is a great unit, because this unit does everything that one does for less $$ and is portable!!!

I was thinking that when grocery stores close, I assume their doors stop sending falses, and if so, it will unlearn them. This is not true, at least not on my 9500ci. I've passed by the locked out stores when they are closed and the signals were not unlocked the next time I passed that store. I'm not sure what the criteria is for unlocking a locked out signal, but it is definitely not one pass from what I've seen.

Can someone tell me what the procedure is to determine what version firmware/database I have on my 9500 ix. It's new and I am still evaluating it so I have not registered it nor downloaded any software yet...is there a way to get the info via direct keypress on the unit itself.

Your 9500ix has to be connected to Escort's software to determine what firmware version is installed.
