Help Please, i have a 9500i and i am trying to get the latest update.
I downloaded the update and i have the Escort Detector Tools 1.3 installed.
The RD is ON, and the USB cord is plugged in, but the USB Device Not Recognized shows up and the driver installation fails.
The 1.3 Tools is not able to detect the RD.
Also i have a 9500ix which connects and updates just fine with the same cord and software.
Thank you in advance.

From what I can tell there might be two different versions of the software. This one for the 9500i https://secure.escortradar.com/9500iregister.asp and this one for the 9500ix and 9500ci https://secure.escortradar.com/iregister.asp

hmmmmmm... is this the first time you have tried to update it? If so it sounds like a firmware problem in the detector. Usually if the PC cannot recognize the device the problem is with the device itself. If it does not have a driver for it, it says unknown device. And seeing as you said that everything works fine with your 9500ix. Try resetting the 9500i to factory.

Try updating on a different computer. If it does the something again than it definitely is the detector. Then it's time to call bel.

Same thing on a different computer.
You do custom LEDs on the V1? How much?

Check your PM for the display. Also I would say its the detector, contact bel and see what they can do for you.

Hi djdownfawl,

Did you remember to put the 9500i in USB mode (where it displays 'USB') before plugging it into your computer? That is the first thing to try. Also, don't use the first two USB ports on the back of your computer. Sometimes those are only USB rather than USB2 ports. Try a different USB port. Usually the USB ports on the front of your computer (if any) are USB2. Finally, if you have an add-in USB2 card in your computer which uses the same brand chipset as the built-in USB on your computer's motherboard, then you can run into problems. This is easily resolved by temporarily disabling the USB chips on the motherboard in Windows -- not in BIOS. Not sure which drivers are for the motherboard's USB chips? Temporarily remove the USB add-in card, reboot and disable the USB drivers for the motherboard USB chips, then power off again and reinstall the USB add-in card. This way only the USB add-in card's drivers will be active.

:)

I figured it out. Thanx.
Thank you MEM-TEK, It wasn't in USB mode, and i was using Vista. It somehow worked after putting it into the USB mode and on XP.
I updated it and i am sending back the POS 9500ix, sorry but i hate the smart-mute feature. Hate it with a passion when it mutes out Ka band.
I like to know whats near me and what i am approaching, no matter if i am under the speed of 20MPH.
Now i have my old 9500i updated, LOVE the RED display! Love the ramp up! Love the NO SMART-MUTE .. LOL. I might as well get a V1 now! YEAH a V1 baby!!

I am gonna wait for GOL tests and then probably get the 9500ix if convinced. And hopefully they come out with an option to turn OFF the SMART MUTE!!!!

Thank you

And hopefully they come out with an option to turn OFF the SMART MUTE!!!!I don't understand why this isn't an option to begin with. With the 9500ix's Autolearn and GPS features, not to mention how quiet I hear it is to begin with, I don't think alerts at a stoplight/slow speeds would annoy a person TOO much, assuming in most cases it will be a genuine alert.
