The cheapest RD I can recommend is a Bel V955.

kinda hard for under 100..but u can find a bel 940 for around 130-140

BEST and $100 dont go together in the radar detector world. now a $100 gift card to best buy and he can put in $200 and buy a red l.e.d. 8500 x50.
The lowest priced radar detectors that have reasonable performance are the Bel 940 ($140) and the Whistler XTR-690 or Whistler Pro-78 ($150-180). They'll give you a solid B+ performance (80% range), which is pretty good.
Getting a detector lower cost than that (and collectively we've looked at all of them, inside and out), you'll end up with a detector in the 5-20% performance range. Which is an F-.
Also, the higher end Cobra detectors, which can be expensive, have lots of bells and whistles (compass, etc.), but have a chronic problem where they do lousy at the radar thing.

Wait for a sale at Circuit City - - they frequently have the V940 for $120...it's quite a bargain at that price point :)

The whistler pro 68 I bet is pretty good. I would say check amazon because radarbusters does not carry the pro 68

negative. i have a $35 whistler that is excellent. i would highly reccomend anything from whistler, specifically the whistler pro 78, pro 68, xtr690, xtr 695.

If you can't spend more than $100, go out to your yard, get a rock and stick it under his gas pedal. That'll keep him from getting tickets.
In the RD world, you get what you pay for. Research well before you buy.
