Nuvi or 9500ix ? for red light cam

Currently i have a Escort 8500 and im perfectly happy with the range ect. It works just fine. But it doesnt help me with red light or speed cameras. Im in houston and i think there are only like 100 cameras here.


Nuvi 350

one major plus that i see is that it can also be used as a gps for navigation

9500ix worth it but if you don't want to spend money use your nuvi.It works perfect.

What makes it worth it ? Will i really see that much improvement over my x50 to make it worth the extra $350 ?

hey its actually is worth it, my friend had own the x50 before and then he swicted to a 9500ix and he tells me that he gets alor more range on ka band then he ever did from his x50. I mean not that Iam putting down your x50 or anything. I have used the x50 long ago and if is a pretty decent detector to start off with.

I mean if you got $350 dollars to spent, I say go for it. This way you get all in one. Better range and redlight, speed cameras.

I'd also recommend you consider a Cheetah, because it has directional alerts, whilst the Escort and the Nuvi have radius alerting. Becuase of the way the cameras in Houston are typically located, you'll get far fewer false alarms from a Cheetah than from the other products.

Not so. Most GPS units have an adjustable incident angle, which can narrowed to much less than 360 degrees. I just narrowed the angle for red lights from the default 90 to 50 degrees on my Magellan GPS using Trapster POI categories.

The real question is which database is best, but that depends on many other considerations.

I'd go with the 9500ix over nuvi, I have the ix and its great. Cheetah mirror and c100 are also great, cheetah gives you a more advanced warning in distance than the ix though i have to admit.

You can go to POI Factory | new & interesting places for your GPS (http://www.poi-factory.com/) and for $20 a year you get access to custom points of interest for red light and speed cameras (updated almost daily). You can also download alert sounds for these devices. This works well with my Nuvi 360 (basically a Nuvi 350 with Bluetooth).
