Yes, the techs at Bel say it is the same detector as the RX65 without the travel case. In testing the range was a bit shorter and filtering lower. But again, you could take two identical RX65 units and see the same difference during the same test
Also, no multiple threat display, and no "US" and "International" settings for Ka band (it scans everything by default, which is GOOD)
I haven't used the V995 but it seems like a pretty good value...

Jim,
Have you been as impressed with the RX65 as Bob has? Me personally I know my V1 very well and would not trade it for any other detector.

The RX-65 seems pretty decent for the price, and makes a good backup. It is installed in my girl's car and it will probably be there for a while.
On the RX-65, the audio alerts might be loud enough, but I don't like the way they sound at all. They just aren't as "distinct" as the V1, and they never reach a constant tone, which makes it difficult to judge the threat level by the audio. I also don't like the "ringing" or "whirring" sound like x-band has (did they use surplus phone parts or what :D ) In my opinion, the audio alerts on the RX-65 are one of it's biggest drawbacks.
It would take a heck of a lot better detector than the RX-65 for me to give V1. As far as I am concerned it just has too many advantages over the others.

Ya when my v1 went "constant tone" I knew for absolutley sure I was caught which was quite often using it. I called it the "BUUUURRR of Death"! Now I run a Bell....
Note... "These opinions and experiances expressed by the author are his own, your results my vary..."
I wish Valentine would make a more pleasing tone when It goes full tilt. I equate it to a Hydogen Bomb alert with the same effects on my nervous system... Maybe it could play an appropriate little jingle like " I shot the sherrif " or maybe a little Bob Marley...
got any good ideas tunes for speeding infractions jim? Your my idea man! 8)
btw I wish all detector companies would do this. Hell they got detectors that talk don't they.....

I might run some test between the two detectors when i get home for spring break, but the little my father has told me about his comparison is that 995 has about the same sensitivity as rx65 on the K and KA
One thing that he has noticed is that the filtering on the rx65 is better
Roy tested these detectors in his testing here are the results

BEL has told Roy that they are the same detectors.
With the RX65 you get a hard case, winshield mount, and smart cord.
You don't get a hard case or smart cord with 995 but you do get changable color face plates
RX65 is a better value for the stuff you get

I owned a 995 for a while (just a few days). Ordered it from Roy and sent it back for an RX65 because it seemed to pick up a lot of door openers, etc. But I noticed with the RX65 that it's about the same. It also has days where it seems to POP-false more than others, so I might not have given the 995 a fair chance. That, and I was used to Cobra stuff, so I just hadn't adjusted to extreme K-Band sensitivty of Bel units.
I just sent a friend to Roy's website a couple days ago and he ended up getting a 995. I've worked out a deal with him to swap detectors with him for a couple days and give it more of a chance this time so i'll see what opinions I can offer you all on the two.

a comparison test between both of them would be great. I'm intereded in that, too :)
