• 10x Range vs. Imports
what exactly does this mean? :o

I think this is from the Beltronics advertisements? Beltronics RD's are made in Canada, which for some reason I guess they don't consider an "import" in the same way that the poorly performing RDs like Cobra and Rocky Mountain Radar are "imports" from Asia.

Whistler is made in the Philippines.

If it's a Bel you're looking at, the whole Vector series has the same range (V940, 955, 965, 995)

On Bel's website they say that the :
"The Vector 940 still has 6 times the range of imports, and covers you for all US Radar and Laser Bands, all at an affordable price."
955 has 8x range over the imports
995 has 10x range over the imports
But if you look at the guysoflidar.com site they all do test very similar. Is this just marketing B.S., I always thought features where the only difference between the models.

Pretty much. And the only difference between the 955 and 965 is a travel case for 15 (or was it 25$). Ugh.

Nope. The advertising claim is accurate in regards to specifically detecting 35.5 Ka band radar since many import brands have to use a notch filter centered around 35.5 in order to prevent false alerts from other radar detectors. Quite simply, those import radar detector manufacturers can't infringe on the patents held by Bel/Escort, Whistler and Valentine to get around the RD falsing issue on 35.5 Ka. There are no other engineering solutions which I can think of which haven't already been patented. Import RD manufacturers use 35.5 notch filters since false alerts are the number one reason why radar detectors are returned for a refund.
