If you had to choose between 2 detectors which would you choose? One that had decent long range detection and great off axis detection or one with great detection range and decent off axis detection? Forget features just consider detection. I am having hard time choosing. This is not a debate just looking for some pros and cons to help me choose....I think it is time for me to settle down to one detector...I have them lying all over my office and it is getting messy.

The off-axis detection is more useful than the extra range, IMHO.
I would go for the extra range. But it's a tough call. Didn't the GOL off-axis testing show the V1 to have the best off-axis detection on most bands anyway?

I agree. SML tests show a 9 range mile detection on completely flat land for the top dog detectors out now a days. If this was a real alert, it would be a 2 minute too long alert :)
The hard part is detecting that off axis radar.

Personally, I would go for better off-axis performance. On-axis range is helpful if you're driving straight at the speed trap with no curves or hills in between, but in the real world most of my ticket-saving detection has come from reflections, which don't have an obligation to direct themselves straight into your detector.
Could be different in Florida though. I think I'm currently sitting higher than the highest "mountain" in the state. :p
Highest point in Florida is Mount Trashmore.

Which models do you have to choose from? If money was no object, I'd couple a V1 and 9500ci together. For city driving, maybe turn the V1 X off and run the K band with automute settings in the city. Sell the Zr4 jammers.
If you drive the highways more, maybe a V1 and a STi-r. Run the STi-r for Ka band.
If you have to pick one...thats pretty tough.

I think that both are relatively minor issues in comparison to reactivity. Reactivity would be my deal-breaker issue, with sensitivity coming in at second place, and off-axis a close third.

Even at my cost a 9500ci is to rich for my blood!...I'm either a 9500ix, 9500i, STi Driver, 8500 S7, 8500x50 S7, STi-R got on my nerves and so did V1 because most of my driving is metropolitan area..

You are right about the 9500ci. It is to rich for my blood to. But i do like my V1. If i lived in the city, i might not like it as well.

I live in the city. BIG city. And my V1 hardly falses at all. When it does, it's just a pleasant female voice announcing, "K band", not the annoying beeps and braps of an RD. There is no X-band, and Ka doesn't false, so that just doesn't leave much to false.

I'd probably go with the extra range. It's a tough choice. I guess it would depend on how you define "decent" range.

off axis detection for sure , all rds seem to have nice range nowadays but these cops dont camp on flat straight roads
