I've read reviews on both, both seem to be very good for under $200 for RD's... not sure which to get between these two as they are almost the same in price, anyone have a preference over one or the other and would like to share why?

Both have their strong points and weak points. I much prefer the v955 over the Whistlers, but since you asked this question in the Whistler forum, I'm sure the Whistler zombies will defend their choice.

Where do you drive?

Touch decision. Here's my take. The Bel 955 is a great rd for the price w/ one exception, there is a chance w/ this rd that "Service Required" can come up on the display and then you are talking about some dollar$ to get it fixed (if out of warranty). I have seen this happen w/ 3 separate Bel 955's in which I didn't understand why it happened. One was a close friend of mine who was very upset about the "Service Required" msg on the display. The Whistler Pro 78SE is a great rd for the money and has a bright enough display as compared to the 690-695. Now before any BelEscort folks come in here and start BASHING me, take a look at my signature and know I use a BelEscort almost every day. Just ask Languy,Rocky2,RobCollins, Freebird and others.

Just to follow up on proudNMAmember's comments, the Pro78SE has a 3 year warranty.

Well I only posted it here because the only RD I've used was a whistler, I drive in MA/RI & the areas near the border of them, mostly only those areas.

My budget is about $150 or so for a RD so trying to get the most for my money, these are the two best for that price that I've found so now just trying to chose between them haha

If QT and I/O are used in your area, then I would go with the Pro 78SE.

According to the the radar bands by town list.. my areas use K, Ka, & C/O K

I drive MA, NH, CT, RI and I find both of these units to perform similar against most situations.

I've had both. I like the filtering and the range a little better on the 955.

I am not sure about the V955 as I've never had one but I have used a Bel V995. I use both a Whistler XTR695SE and a PRO78SE and I found the Whistlers performed a bit better. Seemed to be more sensitive to Ka and at longer distances than the V995. I am not sure about K band on the 995 either as I rarely encounter it. But that is in my area and terrain. I have never had a laser hit with any of them so I can't address that. I really don't know that may people that use Beltronics but that doesn't mean they aren't good detectors.

As many have stated. Some have their strong and weak points. All together though, they are pretty much equal. Some things the Bell has the Whistler Lacks and vice versa.

WHistler Zombie will say get Pro78se over V955:rolleyes:.......You don't have to be a Whistler zombie to make that recommendation. Both have their advantages over one another. It's a matter of preference.

I happen to have a Beltronics v995, and the Whistler Pro78se. I have run both detectors at the same time separated by about 3 feet. They will alert at the same time against a K band speed sign. I have run each detector against the same speed sign many times individually, so I know where they will alert. I have noticed no degradation in performance on K band in this configuration.

Seems like a no brainer to me.

Just check the 2009 GOL I/O Test, what was the second best performing detector to the V1? Whistler Pro 78 SE.

When it comes to constant on, both of them will be fine, 955 may have the edge but what does it matter? The 955 will NOT respond to quick trigger radar bursts (Not POP, but around 0.5 seconds). This is a REAL tactic used by law enforcement.

So basically you could get the 955 and maybe get C/O alerts a few secs earlier, but honestly who cares if it just ignores I/O?

Its all about having a warning, neither detector will always give you one, but I believe the Pro 78 SE will give you the best opportunity against against a diverse range of radar threats.
