Hello everyone. I've been reading some of the post since I came across this forum this morning. I finally saved up the money to purchase a Valentine 1. I placed the order Sunday evening so it should have been shipped Monday afternoon. I haven't received the UPS tracking numbers yet but I expect the radar to be delivered by Friday...hopefully! How long did most of you have to wait for your order? I live in Florida if that helps.
I also would like to know what radars are frequently used in FL and which aren't. I've read in this forum that X band is seldom used. How bad is laser in this area?
I've gotten 2 speeding tickets (15 over and 22 over) and a written warning (17 over) and I turn 22 this year. I believe it's time for me to have some sort of defense.
Thanks for any helpful information.

Welcome to the forum.
See here for FL information: Radar Bands by Town (http://www.radardetector.net/forums/local-regional-info/33306-radar-bands-town-updated-8-6-09-a.html). X band is not used at all in FL, so you can turn it off if you wish. FHP are masters of QT so be very careful and always use a rabbit.
Laser alerts are nothing more than a ticket notifier, but fortunately I hardly ever see Laser here in Central FL. If it's used more where you live you should look into getting a jammer.
It takes about 2-3 days to get your V1 on average. I paid the extra for overnight shipping because I was impatient! You'll have to e-mail them to get the tracking numbers as they don't send them out by default (no idea why).

Thank you for the quick reply. What is QT btw? Lol. Newbie here! I don't believe I've crossed too many lasers either. I do live in central Florida. About 30 mins from Clearwater beach. My warning was from a single state trooper sitting angled at the road next to the slow lane, so I assumed he was using laser. I had cruise on and there was only one SUV, so that was dumb on my part to be the only loner on the road doing 17 over. I think he really only gave me a warning because I was polite, put all my windows down and it was my birthday and I was rushing home from college for the weekend. Haha
Hmm, didn't know I wouldn't get my tracking numbers. I will email them, tha is for the tip. I really only need them because it said online that a signiture may be required and I am not home often enough to sign so I had it shipped to my job (Publix). They always receive packages and have any manager or front office staff sign for them. I just want to kno the minute it hits the store :)
Thanks again

Some basic facts:
C/O = Constant on, the officer has his radar gun turned on and constantly measuring speeds.
I/O = Instant on, the officer has his radar gun in standby mode he hits abutton when he wants to measure someone's speed which activates the radar. I/O bursts are usually 1 second or more.
QT = Quick Triggering, similar to I/O but a very short burst of less than 1 second. Very difficult to detect. FHP have mastered this technique.
This is why I recommend rabbits in FL, follow behind traffic moving at the speed you wish to go so you can pick up the officer sampling them ahead of you and slow down accordingly.

Awesome. I knew of the first two. I took a guess at QT being quick trigger. I have read a good bit into radars and speeding and know what a rabbit is. If there is a difference between I/O and QT, then where does POP stand?
I also just sent valentine an email requesting tracking numbers.

POP is a controversial feature used on MPH guns (which are common in FL), it sends a short 63ms burst to determine speed. The idea being that an RD will not be able to respond quick enough to alert the driver, which is very likely.
It is not supposed to be used to write tickets, only for sampling traffic. There's some debate over whether or not POP is used at all anywhere, it's supposedly not authorised in FL. I know a couple of Florida police officers, they know of the feature but have never used it.
My personal recommendation? Don't even worry about it.

I know here in the Tampa area the City of Tampa and HCS are busting balls with the laser. I get at least one if not more hits a week with laser. On Monday I got hit 4 times with laser. They sit over behind Westshore Mall and the Airport. Get a blinder m27 you have a great radar detector coming. I my self have Blinder M27 on front and I moved my ZR3 to the back figured it's already in the car just move the heads to the rear. I just moved up to the Valentine One it came UPS today. So I will test that. Dont laugh, I had a Cobra 9550 with GPS. I got tired of getting a warning and having to slam on the breaks because I was already on top of the cop. I'll have to figure out what settings work good for the V1 in this area. Just add the blinder and you should be good. Do you have a GPS with Trapster or Phantom Alert. Believe me, I run both on the TomTom and it helps. Keeps me alert.

Oh man that sucks, I hope they don't start doing that here. My truck is gonna need at least an LI dual just for the front end, preferably quad. I won't be able to afford that for a while.

I know they don't fix the roads around here. All the money went to buy new radar guns. LOL

Thanks Trumpet2. I live in the Tampa area also. I'll have to pay attention driving down by Westshore Mall. Mine should either by waiting for me at home or on its way tomorrow. When did you order yours?
I may be driving to Orlando next weekend so I will get a good idea of how this radar fends against radar. This morning actually, I passed 2 state troopers on Veterans Expressway in just a 6 mile drive! They both were parallel to the highway, so I assume they were using C/O or I/O. Just wish I had my radar already so I would know. I was only doing about 5 over though and they were both on the opposite side of the median.

Using the GPS with Trapster and Phamton Alert has really helped. It give me some warning that I'm in their Radar Zone. I run both because each one has some missing points. Just figured I would double up and be covered.

Excellent. Just 4 business days. I should be getting mine tomorrow or Friday at latest. It's amazing I will finally have a V1. I have wanted one for nearly two years I'd guess

OP: Use rabbits, turn POP on and start thinking about how you want to address lidar.

I will get to thinking about Lidar. I think I will start with some Veil. I do wish it was cheaper though, but what can you do? haha

You will like the V1 in the Tampa area with some K band programing done. The K band door openers are a pain-in-the-a$$! Oh, the unmarked Leo Dodge sport cars are nice and sharp!

I would really like to know what other programming I can do with K band. I turned X band off which helps, but some places are nuts with K band. I did some reading about auto muting K band at onset but I don't exactly understand it. I have it set to auto mute for 10 seconds at first onset but it still comes on full blast the second it senses K band. Shouldn't it alert at muted volume for at least 10 seconds and or until thr signal reaches 6 on the strength meter? Maybe I'm understanding it incorrectly. It's very nice on the highway though. Dead silent unless it's really an issue. So far I'm vert happy!

You can reduce K falsing in the city somewhat with programming but you can't eliminate it. I've pretty much given up on fighting K falsing and went back to A mode at all times so I don't short change myself when there's real threat. Just press the mute button when it gets annoying.

Slowing down just a weeee bit might help your cause, too! Your insurance costs must be killing you (or will if you get more tickets!) The V-1 is a GREAT unit, but remember, no technology will stop a cop from ticketing you. There are other ways of one getting a ticket other than radar or laser.
Good luck!

O yes, I totally agree. Those two tickets were received at times when I really shouldn't have been speeding....as in being the only sole on the road! :)
The first ticket I was the only person on the road having some fun around sharp turns in the road. The second I turned right and floored it going up an on ramp and was clocked from behind the entire way up by a cop that must have turned left to catch the same ramp (coming from the opposite direction). The warning was me being one of two cars on 417 in Orlando FL. I was also in the fast lane
