I just want to run straight cord that has that phone type of connection..The smartcord is really taking up to much space...Had to remove ashtray and stuff cord in that area...They sell a straight cord for direct connection.....I guess I could connect cig lighter connector to the cord right :?: :?: :?: Presto   More room :P I have RD above on visor so I run wire under and along side of interior...Don't want coiled wire :D

Also have room for BIG GULP cup :P
That's the only reason I have my detector hardwired, my lighter is right in front of the cupholder.

Does your car have a domelight? Why not just wire off of that?

Actually very simple, but if your car has a "dumb" domelight like my cars do, your detector would only work with the doors open  which is usually the only time you don't want it working...
If you have a little switch on it that lets you turn it permanent on, just solder the hot on the RD to something around the bulb, then solder the ground to ground.

My domelight is switched (on all the time, off all the time, on when the doors are open and for a few seconds after). On off or run (but not on start) the on all the time wires are hot, so I'm wired into those, but I have to turn off the detector by hand each time.

Hey... don't drink and drive!!
a little aside, the only "cupholders" on a Saab 900 are two rings cast into the backside of the glovebox door. Good for 355mL pop cans but nothing else, and not when you are moving. So people always put their drinks on the nice space between the seats - the key area. So the drink spills and goes right into the lock and gums it up. I think about 3/4 of the 950k or so 900's ever made had this happen sometime or another

That drove my dad nuts when he had his. Aparently they figured it out, though, because the newer cars place the mechanism on a little mound rather than in a hole that's just begging to have gallons of sugary liquid spilled into it.
