Getting pulled over with Detector
What's the general experience with this? I know it may be less common with a detector. Does it make you more of a target? Are you more assured of getting a ticket? For example if you were pulled over without you may have a chance to get a warning.
I currently have no detector, no new detector that can be used(I have an old fuzzbuster anyone got a use for that).
I've been looking at the rx65 and the v1. V1 has the remote display but its still up on the glass.
It seems from some of the videos I've been watching with the V1 and 65 the V1 hits a little sooner. Im only planning to buy one.

You're an easier target without one. I've heard occassions where LEO has seen it on a dash and given a ticket for what would otherwise be a warning for "all the ones you've missed"

My buddy who is a state cops says he will issue a citation everytime if he sees a RD.

Yeah thats pretty much what I thought. Which kinda chaps my hide. It seems to me the people who drive slow and block the left lane are the problem. Here in Illinois they finally made it illegal to hang out in the left lane, except for passing. But its not enforced, you can run from the wisco state line to Indiana with the left lane blocked and the right lane clear. Ive found this to be more common all over the US now, it used to be everyone knew to use the left lane for passing. Then theres always the ahole who thinks hes the pace car, and slows everyone down on purpose, you go to pass he speeds up.

Ahhh motorcycles what fun (and dangerous) machines... I hate the winter.

I can attest that Cagers are that dumb though...most cagers just dont know it yet.

Surprisingly, I normally can. Of course I pick my battles, but it's not like it's something that happens every day (or even every month for that matter). I really don't like the Escort, but I will say that once you're going around 72ish and you floor it, the speed will jump up fairly quick. You can be up to 90 before you even realize it.

Definatly depends on the officer. The younger the officer the more likely they are to write as they have something to prove. While some of the older officers are reluctant to ever write.

Yeah it seems like most of them have something to prove, and Im guessing if I get nailed with a detector Im getting a ticket. But if I got nailed without a detector I'd be 99.9% sure I'd be getting a ticket. I got off once like a short burst up to 55 on an empty road going like a mile from the store to my house. The cop was a local yocal my town he, saw I lived around the corner and just let me off, this guy was young.
I drive with a cb, and the truckers are pretty good at spotting the traps and the see the cops pull in their hiding space. But its not like it used to be, they'd always get em. Now its hit and miss, I've flown by a few cops with people pulled over and no one was giveing the heads up. It may be the all the crap they got in cab now, cell phones, sat radio, tv, what not, and then you have some that are immigrants eastern Euope, mexico etc. Hence the radar purchase, with conceled display.
Then back to the pace cars and the cling-ons, what is it with these guys, I had one the other day cruising for a while at least 1-2 miles with an open left lane 1/2 or so in front of him, on 6 lane hwy(3 each side). Once I got a chance I did the suicide pass he starts speeding up 65 up to 80, and once Im in front of him. He was pissed starts waving his hand at me, no finger just like pushing me along, I was like sheet just drive dude. I just hit it and kept going.

I spoke with a Tempe officer once who told me that he's more likely to write a ticket to someone who has a Cobra on their windshield than to someone with a V1. Reason being people with V1s (or Bels, or Escorts, etc.) are more often than not good drivers who pay close attention to the road around them, and while they do go fast, they generally aren't dangerously unsafe about it.

People with Cobras, on the other hand, are more often than not punk kids who think they're invincible, and don't really care about anyone else on the road. Plus, he mentioned that he considers a Cobra kind of an insult. People with V1s have their V1s because they respect the capabilities of law enforcements. People with Cobras generally don't, which leads into another point this officer made.

Bottom line: there are lots of officers who will find something to ticket you on if they see a detector. There are lots more who don't care. The officer I spoke to seemed to fall somewhere in the middle (although, short of going on patrol with him, there's no way to tell for certain how much influence a detector has on his decision). He did say, however, that the number one factor in his decision whether to cite you, warn you, or just quit wasting your time is attitude.

Ironically, he also mentioned that rich frat boys in SUVs with Cobras on the dash are more often than not the most uncooperative people he lights up. Just food for thought.

Actually, I had a very similar incident going up Weston Road in Toronto. I was getting a strong hit on my detector so I slowed to just above the limit. Some dolt in a trashed up muscle car got annoyed and blew by me giving me the finger and horn. About a block and a half later, I had the pleasure of passing him as the LEO walked up to his car. I gave him my best big toothy smile. :lol:

I was issued ticket several years ago in VA. for posession of RD; I didn't have VG2 then. I heard some truckers talking about it on CB, I pulled over put my RD under seat with the cord in glove box. I wrote the judge and then he set up a time for me to call seeing that I live in Mississippi. I read to him out loud the letter and was found guilty, the judge said the law in VA states if the unit is accesible to power--with it being under the seat it was..He went on to say that he appreciated my honesty and that I could have lied in my letter and re-read to the court and he would have to dismiss--short story long he found me guilty of possession of RD; told me to be a good boy but did not issue a fine. I know have a new Bel Express 795 with VG2.

This whole speeding thing tome for the majoroty of the time is a big scam. How come LEOs have courtesy cards for them and their family that allows them to break the law with just warnings? It is a bunch of bull sh!t. If it is about safety then it should not be a perk of the job since safety is something that you dont mess around with. For example my father was busted for going 52mph on a 25mph road yet because of his courtesy card they let him go with a pat on the back. Bottom line it is not about safety and anyone that tells you that is a fool or works on the law side
