I was driving yesterday, i kinda pulled out infront of a dumptruck (not really, but when u see a dumptruck u dont want it to get near you, lol!) But anyways, I take off faster than normal because I didnt want to upset the dumptruck driver. So i'm speeding up to the speed limit, i look in front of me and see a cop, i'm like oh crap and apply the brakes a little to stop the acceleration. Well I'm at like 40 in a 45, no problem. Then the radar detector goes off, but only to Ka1, i'm kinda like wtf? Why didnt it go up higher than that? Can anyone explain to me why I didnt get a stong signal from the cop? By the way, I have a RX65. Thanks for any help!

I experience the same thing on my RX65. Either there's something wrong with it at detecting KA, or the cops in BC use very low-powered KA guns...

Yesterday I was driving on a hwy and passed a cop coming from the opposite direction. My RX65 started beeping ka1 at the point we passed each other, for about 2 seconds. I thought instant-ons at such close range should trigger my detector at least more bars...

Sounds like the detector is drifting out of tune...

I think we need a little more info about the situation before we say that...

Like what direction was the LEOs car facing?

Was he moving or not?

Were there cars in front or behind him?

Etc.

How can you be so sure it was the cop in front of you and not another cop somewhere? That has happened to me many times. Detector starts going off and I think it is the cop that is right in front of me and it turns out it is a statie going the opposite direction. I wouldn't hit the panic button just yet unless you see the detector acting funky in several situations.

Which way was the cop facing? He could have had the radar aimed away from you, which would cause a weaker alert than if he fired it toward you.

Was he moving in traffic, or parked on the side/median? Maybe if it happens again, and the cop is parked, turn around and approach from the other direction to see if you get a stronger alert.

What way were the arrows pointing when this happened?............. j/k :)

The Ka source could have been from another cop far away and not the one in front of you.

Was your RX 65 on Autoscan...that sounds about how it reacts. Unless the signal is directly on you and constant. For instant on a lot of times it seems to filter out the first 2 bars of strength and you get the third...

No Autoscan for me!

Well maybe the "dump truck" had a detector, if you had the arrows it could of told ya. :P

ok well, the cop was coming toward me (driving, so no one gets confused) I'm quite sure he was the only cop around, we was in the country roads. My only guess could be that he shot instant on from his rear. Sound like an good eduacated guess? Whenever i first saw him it didnt go off, it took a few seconds for him to shoot, which makes me think it was instant on. Second it I think he could have shot it from his rear, dont know why he would do that but, i dont know any other reason. Cuz my radar detector went off right as we passed (maybe he was a few feet infront, but it only beeped for a second. But anyone else have a better guess? Or can agree with me?

either your detectors broke, or it was a false not the cop....

if its possible go back to where you pulled out infront of the truck and see if it falses, if it does you know your detectors ok.....

either that find some ka band falses, and drive out of sight and then drive towards them, ie making it hard for it to detect them... this way you can judge if its detecting ok...

nearly all the traffic light sensors over here in the uk are ka band some are k but not many and some are ku!

i'm sure you can find some over your way...

Maybe... the officer had a radar gun in the car that he left on, in the seat/floor/somthing. Hence the low powered KA1 you got. Just a guess.

Drive with it, and if u keep getting the same scenario, send it in, otherwise, sounds like its doing its job.

ok well first off, this happened at a place I drive 5 out of 7 days a weeks, twice a day. NOT A FALSE!!! Trust me on that. Whats the chance of getting a false where you have NEVER got one and this time theres a cop infront of you? Exactly, its not a false.

Secondly, I have driven with it for like over 6 months now. Never really had no problem with it, always thought it was great. But the other day confused me and I just wondered what could be the problem.

I guess I'll just have to wait and see, hopefully it was just a very low powered gun or something. I dont want to have to pay for another or something.

Oh, my rx65 detected a constant-on Ka very nicely today. It went from one bar and gradually to Full bars. This is the first time it behaved this way after using it for a month.

Just another reason to turn that RX-65 in for a V-1.

if I had the money I probably would buy a V1. (not knocking the rx65) but we all know what is the best. But I think whenever i do have the money to upgrade and get a new one I will get a V1, unless the STI is better. I'm ready for some results.

But so far I havent seen a cop since that time. Kinda sucks, I hardly ever see cops (which is actually a good thing) But I still dont know if it was just that cops gun or my radar detector has gone bad.

I am using the RX65 as my everyday driver but I am looking for an excuse to buy the STi if the GOL or Roy would give me the excuse!! :D :D :D

As soon as I took it out of the box I didn't like the looks.

The performance is good...but I say again....UGLY
