Hi,

I will be doing a trip from Vancouver BC to Las Vegas. I would appreciate any information about common speed traps along the way, usual police tolerance, the amount for tickets and especially the speed that can get you in big trouble or land you an expensive ticket (400+). I will have my V1 POP1 with me and post my experiences after my return.

I will take this route:

Hi, I just joined the forums.

I-15 down through Utah has several popular spots. Most everyone speeds through the Salt Lake Valley, so just stay in the right lanes and you should be okay. When you get south of Provo (50 miles south of SLC), you get to some wide-open country. There are intermittent traps throughout most of the south Provo area.

The worst area is 10 miles either side of Nephi (30 miles south of Provo). The Utah Highway Patrol loves to sit in the median. They aren't even very subtle about it. Slow down around Nephi. 30 miles farther south, you'll be approaching Fillmore (I once lived there). The UHP occasionally sets ups here, but the county sheriff department is the big problem.

They use gray, brown, or blue Crown Vics and park in the median where there's a fair amount of sage brush. The cars are hard to see. The speed limit is 75, and they usually don't bother you until 83-84. This may differ if you have out of state tags. I don't yet have a radar/laser detector so I can't tell you what bands are in the area. However, the county Sheriff in Fillmore is known to use laser and radar.

The little corner of Arizona just before entering Nevada is also notorious for traps.

Your post didn't say when you were leaving. I hope this helps.
