Of the Talon 35.5GHZ now?

I mean I know it couldnt get a lock in testing, and results with an RD picking it up in a 'real world' situation would be much better.... but let me tell you whenever I see a Talon 35.5 in an LEO car... I will from now on seriously run away (and I do mean get out and run).

Yeah, I'm a bit concerned about new low-powered Ka in general, and about the Talon 35.5 in particular. I hope Valentine can improve the V1s performance in this area.

Along the same lines, does anyone know if any of the current crop of radar guns is adjustable to emit lower power (and thus have less detection range)?

I parked my car after the GOL test! I walk with a 12 volt battery and my V1 is taped to my forhead. Just to be on the safe side! :D

In the words of Professor Jim:

No, none of the police radar has variable output power.
They do generally have a "range" or "snsitivity" adjustment, but output power is fixed.

Some units do have more power than others though.

Some types of photo radar -might- possibly have variable output power, but as far as I know no police radar does.

Im sure if we all throw in a 100 bucks we can get some Russian scientist to build the ultimate detector for us? Hey that's not a bad idea?

  That seems to be the safest option bogey. Honestly it really scares me...

but I guess its better then the MutliNova's.

I get a great range on the local pd with their talon's!!!! Talking to an officer they have all their's "set to maximum range"! I get awesome range and there is a big hill in the way

I thought that the power output wasn't supposed to be adjustable? Maybe the LEO was just referring to sensitivity filtering of the radar gun. Are you getting the great range for instant-on and/or constant use of the Talon 35.5?

But detecting them around the corner I get a POP alert usually

I don't know much about "low powerd radar guns" but I get really loud beeps and then sometimes its really low and can't hear it too good. My volume is set 7/8. Is that an example of low powerd radar gun or is my detector just werid?

when was the talon created and sold to leo's vs. the other ka band radars? anyone have that info.? .....i'm suspecting that the talon is probably the most recently made?

He'd probably just send us a RMR "radar scrambler."

I believe it was introduced mid-1999.

I am confused, on another post I said KA guns are harder to detect because they are low powered, prof Jim said they are usually higher power....what gives? :?

SOME Ka guns are low-power (e.g., Kustom Talon 35.5 GHz).

my x50 has given me over a mile range on instant-on hits every morning when its nice days motorcycle cops are out i love it every other day i test my rd on Ka 35.5 freq:wink:stalkerdual is much easy to pick up on my x50 now 33.8 there has only been a few i seen iam happy tho hope that ferqs dont start showing up tho :(

Im not scared but like I said my local cops state troopers are mostly all Stalker guns and radar ect... unless i travel out of texas or into a city i dont know in TX im cool.

I have had good experience picking up Talon Ka 35.5 with my old Bel985. So I am not too wrorried, although, I am not kidding myself it is good to know that Talons are going to be picked up at shorter range. I have had a very long laert, and I have had a medicre alert range detecting a Talon Ka 35.5

My first 8500 picked up talon from miles away so no I,am not scared of the Talon and I never have been but when I had the wolrds best radar detector then why should I be?.

u guys are scared of the Talon???

U really ought to take a trip down to spain or Hong Kong and witness how terrifying it is to only get 3-5 seconds of warning from the V1 against the multanova.

but then....i guess multanova's are still not as scary as "instant on's" That in my opinion is the most deadly coz there's nothing to protect you from instant on, apart from not being the 1st car in the line.

I am confused, on another post I said KA guns are harder to detect because they are low powered, prof Jim said they are usually higher power....what gives? :?

The difference in detection range between K and Ka guns is due to beam pattern. Basically, the higher the RF freqency you use, the narrower you can make the beam with a given size antenna. Radar companies put that principle to work by keeping antennas that are roughly the same size but concentrating the high-frequency Ka-band radio waves into a narrow pattern. This means that the energy spreads out much less, encountering fewer things to bounce off of and find your radar detector. This is part of the reason that X-band radar guns are so insanely easy to pick up.

The Talon at 35.5GHz was not only low powered relative to the other guns, but worked on a slightly higher frequency. I'm sure those factors combined are what made it so hard to detect relative to the other two Ka guns.

Does this also mean less range for the LEO?

Theoretically yes, it means less POTENTIAL range for the LEO. But, they usually don't target more than 1000 feet away anyway, so the practical answer is no.
