The few LI's i have tested the volume wasn't very loud, and i don't see a 3.5mm jack for an external amplified speaker.

Is it loud enough? I play my music pretty loud so it needs to be loud.

It all depends where you mount the CPU. The LI speaker quality has been discussed on this forum countless times. All and all, the LI speaker at its maximum volume isn't loud enough for a lot of the people here, including myself. If you're playing music loud, you're definitely going to need an external speaker. You're right in saying that there is no 3.5mm jack for the external speaker, therefore you either need to buy a female adapter, and solder the wires or cut the 3.5mm jack off the end of the external and just tie the speaker wire together.

I bought an external CB speaker from Radio Shack and some crimp-on connectors for the external speaker wiring...works like a charm, and loud as hell! If you use the external speaker option, make sure you change the jumper setting inside the CPU. If you don't, you'll have no audible alerts!

Depends on how far you tuck the CPU away.

Thanks for the confirmation/info. I cant beleve i need to solder a 3.4mm jack, i really don't feel i should have to do something that invasive on a high end product like this. But then again my V1 doesn't even have a 3.5mm jack ether.

Maybe i can install the CPU in my head rest if the wires for the shifters are long enough?

I haven't opended the cpu box yet, but I think they are like dipswitches. Like for external speaker 1 and 2 would need to be high and three would be low. Or if they were dipswitches, 1 and 2 would need to be enabled high or low together. It's kind of like binary code, or any kind of programming code.

If dipswitch 1 & 2 are high
output = external speaker
If dipswitch 2 & 3 are high
output = interal speaker

Again, they might not be dipswithes, but the are something very similar. It shouldn't be too hard to figure out. Hope this helps man.

CJR238,

I don't run an external speaker and have the CPU mounted underneath the dash on the Passenger front side of my PU truck. Even w/the radio volume at level 10 (moderately loud) I can still hear the siren go off well over the radio. I think the LI internal speaker is fine by itself.

Thanks guys! Ill see how loud it is when i install it in the spring, will probably use one of my Escort amplified speakers because i run a pretty loud system in my car.

I get the dip switch idea, just doesn't make sense to me to have 4 settings.

That wasn't enough honestly. I had the speaker by my foot as well facing downwards, but it just wasn't loud enough. The escort speaker works wonders, trust me. Besides, the LI speaker is a lot better than a beeeep like other jammers ;)

Half the reason I was so turned on by the LI, besides it's outstanding performance, was the voice alerts. A chick telling me what gun a leo is shooting?mmhhhhmmm ;). Cliff is oh so creative.

It's actually an SMD Jumper not DIP Switches. See page 9 in the LI User's Manual and reference the PICS below to enable the blue speaker wires on the LI power loom for your external speaker:

Get any external amp powered speaker from radio shack.

You can cut the jack on it and then hook up the wires to the LI. If you can't hear anything just switch the wires. Oh yeah, make sure you move the jumper.

I did Solidjake's external hookup in the gas station parking lot. Takes 5 minutes.

No doubt about it, the voice alerts is awesome, sometimes though you will not hear what gun it is due to JTK related to how good / quick your Hand / Eye / Ear / Foot Coordination is ;)
