bluffing?

so every morning i travel to the city for school....and it happens to be right during morning rush hour. now a few times i have seen state troopers in the median, but with no alert from my rd. when i pass them i dont see them using laser or anything, so my question is do they ever just sit in the median and bluff to make drivers slow down? because i dont think theres any way they would be able to pull anyone over during rush hour.

I have heard of them doing that (1 time) before... it is somewhat like a 'decoy' and they are actually doing paperwork.

Or they may be (this happens often) doing paperwork from a ticket they just wrote... the paperwork is lengthy folks.

They may also just be getting ready to set up for after 'rush hour' (the people who are rushing because they are late to work, easy targets!)

Last but not least... they CAN pull someone over during rush-hour, dont make that mistake and think otherwise!

YES! In fact, I used to see a lot of unmanned patrol cars on I-87 (south of Saratoga) in NY and on I-93 (north of Manchester) in NH. One of the first times I saw one I had been hammering south on I-87 in the winter, saw the LEO car and tried to beat him to the punch on a slippery road. My little two-seater did a 180 on black ice at about 105mph but luckily ended up straight just as the ice ended. I was so pissed that I stopped and ran back to the LEO car to chew him out, but there was NO ONE THERE!!! My then girlfriend slept through the entire thing, luckily :)

Last but not least... they CAN pull someone over during rush-hour, dont make that mistake and think otherwise!



oh i know that.....but it would be very difficult getting through traffic, and would slow traffic wayyyy down

Radar is just one of their tools. During rush hour, they know radar is not precise enough, so sometimes they watch for things like: Tailgateing(following too close), or Abrupt lane changes, or Changing lanes without a turn signal, or (their favorite) a combination of these infractions.

I would never assume they are bluffing.

Letting their presence be known is just as powerful as periodically pulling people over.

Cops on base here sometimes park an empty patrol car on the side of a street! One time a patrol was parked out in front of the dorms at dusk. My friend noticed the figure inside hadn't moved in a while so he went up to check on the driver. He knocked on the window...no response. He knocked again, and on closer inspection he noticed it was a uniformed dummy in the driver seat!

As for decoys, Florida uses them alot, or at least I use to see them all the time (Sherriff). The manniquen is halarious to look at. Just so unatural, well they did not seem to do a good job of the decoy, picture grass and weeds growning around the sides of the car.

I've seen on the Thruway near Albany some empty Trooper cars.

I remember over in Austria, there's a policeman (mannequin) on the side of the road.

Decoys make alot of sense for police departments...

Same level of intellegence, yet does not consume alot of donuts.
