Hello All,

After 4 years of service and roughly 40 saves (a lot of highway driving in sparse traffic), my LPP is dead (water penetration of heads):(

I originally bough a LPP Dual 4 years ago, 1 head died last year at which point I converted my installation to a single head LPP, now the other head is dead.

I have decided to replace it with a LI Dual due to this forum members reviews, GOL tests and videos of its effectiveness. Also, the great reviews that Cliff from LI USA has gotten for great customer service, very impressed with that.

One question however about the LI & LPP, both diode based: The LI, from what I read here on the board, needs 2 heads to be effective, where as a single head LPP was able to deliver JTG performance at CM, and under 100' PT at H.L. (on my full-sized sedan)

Is there a stategic reason for mandatory 2 heads with the LI? Would a single LI deliver the same performance as a single LPP? Just curious, I like to understand my countermeasures.

I will be installing and testing the LI tomorrow.:)

Thanks,

It's not so much the jamming power that is the problem. It is the problem of picking up the laser shot with only one head. When you consider that the average laser gun stacked diode creates a box that is about 3ftx3ft wide at 1000ft and most encounters occur at a much closer range than that, your chances of picking up a headlight/roofline over a hill shot are dramatically decreased if you have one centrally mounted jammer head. The LI is more than capable of jamming with only one head assuming it can see the shot. We always recommend at least two heads per side of the car for the purpose of detecting the shot.

Thanks for the quick reply & answer, 2 LI heads for optimal beam detection was the answer I was hoping for.

You made the right decision, congrats on the LI's :)

I'd use both heads. Good choice. Congrats on your LI purchase!

Now if the LI's receivers were as sensitive as the one in the V1, you could protect your entire car with one head! :D

Thanks all.

The installation of the LI Dual is complete (with hidden PA/JA switch). The grille was cut to accept the LI heads, 1 head positioned on each end of the grille next to each headlight, bubble toward the headlight (wide front end).

As far as the post installation, I know the install can make or break a counter measure, but I could not believe how sensitive the LI was to the installation circumstances. Initially, the heads were perfectly level in all planes, however had a slight outwardly angle (less than 5 degrees), I was trying to keep the heads stealthy by following the curvature of the front end due to jamming laws in Illinois.

With the LPP that used to be installed on my car, I found in dozens of test runs that it performed better on my car with a slight outwardly angle vs facing straight forward.

This did not work out well with the LI, when I tested the car with that slight outwardly angle, I had virtually instant PT's with my PLIII, anywhere I targeted. So, got the LI heads pointing straight out, a bit less stealth, but now have JTG performance which is key (although I don't ever JTG).

Am looking forward to putting the LI through its paces on the road, and hopefully rack up another 40 saves or so.
