Do remote starters use signals that RD's detect
I wonder because A) I have one and and B) they have lengthy range, hence a great probablity to cause false alarms for other units.

no i dont belive so. ive had mine around when my buddy started his car with his Viper alarm and it didnt do anything

It never effected mine when I had it on my mustang and my RX 65

It shouldn't, and even if it did, it would only be weak harmonics. Most remote controls operate either in the 200MHz or 400MHz range, and the lowest radar frequencies (X band) begin around 10.525GHz.

While the remote didn't set mine off, the X50 did give a false when it started. I believe it gave a laser false. It doesn't happen very often and only does it when I use the remote to start it.

It doesn't happen very often and only does it when I use the remote to start it.A friend of mine had that happen with his 8500 (non-X50). It's due to the electrical noise when the engine is started.
If you have a detector wired in and use remote start, I recommend wiring the detector to the accessory circuit so it isn't on when the car starts. This prevents damage to the detector due to power surges. If it's on the accessory (rather than ignition) circuit, it won't power up until you insert the key and turn it on to drive.
