With the detection of the V-1 it can find scatter much easier when the cop is tagging another car in front of you :D I have had that happen a few times with mine----saved my butt big time :shock:

but any way, i knew my x50 did have good laser detection, Every one basted it. Even though the v1 is the dominate one, it goes off when ever i pass a car with thoses bright ass head lights, which sucks!!

I'm more surprised that the Cobra seems to have done better than the Whistler. I keep reading that Whistlers are really sensitive so I expected it to do at least a little better.

with V1's extremely high gain lens i expected it to be a winner. Where were the detectors mounted?

i read it in the same article you read, or maybe you just looked at the graphs

Conclusion:

"We believe one can maximize the performance potential of the laser detectors by slightly pitching the detector forward on its mounting bracket on the windshield, being mindful not to obstruct the rear laser detection sensor that is mounted atop of the Bel, Cobra, Escort, or Whistler models.

We think improvements are realized because of the increased likelihood of the front laser detection sensors spotting reflection/scatter off the surface of the hood."

Wow. I was holding out for a red X50. I drive a veiled, no front plate, small black car, so laser detection may actually buy me a second of decelleration. Looks like I'll hold out until a unit under $300 has figured out laser detection.

Note to you V1 people: This is when your detectors really shine. The high price of your detector, combined with the fact Mike Valentine only spends his time perfecting one detector means that you get a product that shines when dealing with new threats. Its upgradeable too, so you can always be ready for the next threat that comes along. In times when no new technologies are introduced, the V1 is $100 too expensive, but right now it is worth every penny.

Yeah the V1 is by far the best. but honestly the x50 isnt bad at all. it never missed an alert with me. so if your going to wait for the V1 to drop to 300 then go ahead and buy the x50 cuz it aint gunna happen :lol: . either that or save up another 50 and get a returned unit.

You're correct on that point. As I indicated in our conclusions, in actual real-world targeting situations, these results should improve across the board for all of those detectors - their performance being less distinguishable.

We were very careful to minimize movement that will occur during typical hand-held shots and found that even the slighest upward panning often caused the other detectors to alert.

In the laser real-encounters we have had, the V1, RX65, and X50 have each adequately alerted us; we haven't had one yet with the STi, but the results suggest that it would do well.

The V1's performance, though, is still most impressive and, in my opinion, remains a differentiator between it [other than the arrows] and all the other top flight detectors.

Veil Guy- you mentioned there were variances in the height of the detectors in the testing. Were they all in the same place in the same vehicle and run one at a time or were the specs different?

We located each of them at the same location which we settled upon after taking shots at different positions - because we felt that we got the best performance from them in that position.

V1 at $400 will cost you less to own than any $300 unit - with the fact that it can always be brought up to the very latest specs for a lot less than the cost of replacing it, and the fact that if you SHOULD need to sell it down the road later on, even years later you will get back most of your money. And with the idea being to avoid a ticket, and seeing how the V1 rules at laser and is probably the best overall on radar etc. etc. a $300 unit will certainly prove more expensive than the $400 V1.

I'm currently saving up to attend law school, so every penny I earn over the next several months really should be dedicated to my schooling. The X50 is barely affordable to me now. The V1 is simply out of my price range.

anyone who has a laser jammer and or veil has not to worry about if the top end bel picks laser up better than valentine. if it has a jammer, then thats whats realy matters.
as far as radar vs radar sure it seems v is better laser(only cause it has front and rear remote module antennas. but if you have a jammer, you get away from tickets. if you get hit with valentine even if it picks uop scatter good, your probably still getting a ticket unless you get lucky and either slow in time or have a jammer with the val?
i say go with a jammer and veil and hi end bel anyday over valentine.
top end bel/escort have better or equal k and ka detection as well. even better in pop mode-100% detection on the new sti and beat the valentine on ka pop and k pop. dr

I would like to note that the x50 is also flash upgradeable by Escort as well... maybe someone already said that, not sure.

Or you could take your chances and buy off ebay, I did with my 1.7 and it was perfect when I got it.


It would be interesting to see the bel 75 and the escort equivalent(the ones you mount the things on the outside of the car) I wonder how those do against lidar.
