Ok I had another decent LEO experience two days ago on the 401 near London Ontario. I detected an OPP cruiser coming in the opposite direction from 1.5km away, thats roughly 1 mile. The LEO was running constant on K Band. The detector signaled a level 1 alert for about .5km than jumped to 3 for about 5 seconds, than full 5 alert until the LEO passed. I was honestly quite impressed.

I know we talk about how Cobra is bad and the worst of the bunch but this little detector has yet to fail me. Is anyone willing to do any video with the 9700 to prove otherwise? I'd really like to see a comparison video with one of the top 4. I think 1 mile detection is quite good no??

yup, my brothers owns the same unit and ive been with him on many occasions, and it is a fairly decent detector.

I have yet to see a low end detector perform well

Under the right circumstances there's no reason that one can't do its job just fine.

Literally any modern detector should be able to detect constant-on line-of-sight radar a mile or more away...

On a long, flat, straight stretch of desert highway with Johnny Newbadge being stupid and leaving his K-band gun in constant-on mode aimed straight down the road, sure, I'd believe a Crapra would perform quite well.

To each his own, and if a Cobra does the job well enough for you, then congratulations. I like to know that my detector will save me 9.9 times out of 10, however, so I go with my X50 and Whistler backup (which, though it falses on X and K a lot, has yet to miss a real alert).

Honestly as said before, in a straight shoot, on a flat road most any detector should grab a signal like that (on K-band constant), where the Big 3 (4) really shine is around bends, and through elevation changes.

BUT with that being said... if you are completely happy with your Cobra, be happy with it, if it works for you... who cares what everyone else says about them?

The only thing I will say is it ticks me off when people drive around with Cobras, because they set off higher end units when you get near/ go by them. :x

The OPP up here aren't very good with radar. I don't think I've ever seen a instant on hit. I am pretty happy with the crapra its served me well, but my STi arrives soon and than I'll try to do a side by side comparison. I'm sure I'll see the clear winner than.

I agree I have a 1600 series whitler that cost me 25 buck's, it will pick up constant on K at over a mile and has even alerted to laser!

I got a question regarding X ban & K band detection. I approached my local RCMP LEO's they had there radar gun right on me and my K ban alert goes off big time. Later I see 2 RCMP Leo's in the parking lot and my X band goes off. It seem's like when the are driving arroung many times as well my X band goes off. Could this be there radars in stand by mode, or would the be using X ban when just crusing arround. I can't figure this one out any help.

If you are getting X alerts *from* them then it must be an X radar. Might just be a conveniently-located false.

Could also be a band ID issue, ie it's really K and it says X. Though this is rare, usually that only happens for K and Ka.
