After reading many posts and comparing everything there is to compare, I have finally decided which RD I will get. I was having the hardest time deciding between the Bel RX65,Escort 8500 X50, and the Valentine 1. Each radar detector has its own special features that had attracted me, but only one of them seems to be best overall. I have decided (drumroll) Valentine 1! I live in Atlanta (metro) and have heard that this falses a lot (especially in the city), but with POP off, it's pretty quiet. Since many LEO's (whatever that stands for) dont use POP anymore, it's usually pretty safe to leave this off. That would take care of the city portion. The highway portion would just be used like everyone else, and from what I understand, this is best used on highway with its superior laser detection. I also plan on getting AL6.5 when I can. Also, after looking at some other posts (especially the LED one), I made my ultimate decision (thanks to LED post, I can now justify buying an ugly detector). I believe that I could mod the unit myself. I am currently studying to be an aerospace engineer and my roommate is a electrical engineer so I'm sure if I had any questions, he would be able to help me. The only question that remains is how I'm gonna get the money to buy this detector (along with the AL6.5). I might get the "refurbished" one for $360, but still havent decided on that. Maybe a good day at online poker and I'll be set. Thanks to everyone who has helped me in making this very tough decision.
