A call to all Forums users to stop propagating X-band myth.

I think its time that we stop repeating the myth that xband is only used in those two states... because every time I hear it stated, the statement seems more and more absolute.


I belive the first time I read the statement it said that those two states are the only two known to have widesperead use of Xband. This does not mean however that they are the only two states xband is used in.

So, please folks.... when people talk about or ask about xband, don't give them the same tired old party line about ohio and new jersey, I just don't think its true anymore....

yup, little "po-dunk" cities that cant afford the equiptment usually use x band still. I personally havent been hit with it then again I dont drive to much other then work and back.

Good post, maybe people will read it and figure out that no matter the state, some cities do use X band still.

Well, I think the problem is people have read the x-band info and interpret it as Xband does not exist outside of certain states... which is not the case. There may be a lower risk, but its always there.

If they interpret it wrong, let em find out the hard way. I dont think you can read this thread wrong. If they still believe X is only in those 2 states, let em. They can find out the hard way :lol:

with it being the first radar band its going to be the last to get made obsolete reason is with it being old and as people would normaly think its ''faded out'' they are wrong the reason is the fact that people think its not used anymore.. or its used so little that they either turn off or ignore x band alerts !

this is a bad idea because with this in mind the police will route out their old equipment and do the calibration tests and then start using it again!

people wont be expecting this band to come back into use!
the result people with radar detectors get caught!

in the uk some manufacturers have made some new traps on x band!
this has supprised many motorists! they all said i thought that band wasnt used!!

by the looks of it... its making a come back!

JTW posted in another thread that he had sent X radars to some smaller departments in Maryland and another state (Maryland sticks out for me since I live here).

I leave X-band turned on and acknowledge it if the need arises.

Yeah, I searched for "Texas" to see about in any info given about my state. I saw it on their, I believe Jammertest is the one who said it.

X Band is still used up here... Not often, but it's still around and when used properly....lethal....I never shut off X Band...you just never know. :wink:

Just when I was getting out of the X Band, they pull me back in!!!!!

... and don't defeat the X band in your detectors. Back in the day, THP used K-55's exclusively, and as THP went, so did most of the smaller departments around the state. So there's still tons of old X band units still in use with departments who either couldn't afford to upgrade or didn't really feel the need to. Now that THP has Stalker Duals, many other depts. have followed suit, but the X units are still out there. So be warned.

Oh, and if you're ever on I-24 between Chattanooga and Nashville, keep your eyes open for THP driving a new blacked-out Explorer! As I got past some traffic and was getting "back up to speed" yesterday, he pulled right in front of me to pace a vehicle I was following and throw down on the blues. Definitely a narrow escape for ole' Jimbo. :lol:

Last night I was driving up I-695 in Catonsville, MD just before the 95 overpass, i got an X bleep and didnt think anything of it because I had never seen or thought that X band was used by police in this area! So as I kept driving, my X50 kept showing a dot or more on X band, and it kept doing back and forth for atleast a mile! Next thing I know, I now am showing a very strong Ka and a very strong X band. Now I know that whenever I get Ka band in this area, its a cop. 10 seconds later I can see the flashing lights in the distance, 2 cop cars are on the side of the road with another car pulled over in front of them. It has now taught me that X band IS used by SOME cops in Baltimore County!!! X band must have a very strong signal as my X50 picked it up about a mile back and the radar gun wasnt even facing my direction!

What state/city area? Was it a state or local cop?

I owned a Cobra 9870 for a while (where you couldn't turn bands on and off) and I never got a valid X alert in Michigan. Most of my driving is highway, so most of the time, I only have State and County officers to worry about.

I AM SPEAKING ON BEHALF OF MYSELF AND AM NOT MAKING A SUGGESTION FOR OTHER USERS...

Because of my experiences with the Cobra, I turned off X-band in my V1, HOWEVER, as soon as I leave the state, I turn X-band on and usually run in logic or advanced logic mode. I've gotten many positive X alerts in Ohio and other states that are still running X-band.

Add NC and OK to the list. I have seen X-band used in both states by highway patrol.

X band for me is usually a grocery store/store/false. But I am in California.

There was a Birmingham cop using constant on X band on I-459 a couple of weeks ago.
