Yes those are a real pain.... but you can still ask for disclosure. See what he got you with... if you elect not to fight then you get convicted in abstentia and I dont believe there are any extra costs for that.
Be aware you could get hit with a hefty premium increase even with a minor ticket depending on who your insurance company is. Also you never know down the road what might happen so I wouldnt sluff it off because its only $50. I'd do some anonymous checking to see how your ins company
Read this from the Toronto Star Wheels section
I was reading the The Star Wheels Section column on insurance this morning and a question came in from someone who just got a ticket. Check out the response from the industry expert. Makes a pretty good case for fighting every ticket.
Q I'm a 29-year-old male and drive a 2004 Mazda RX-8. In general, I have a perfect driving record and only pay $1,850 a year for insurance.
However, I received a minor speeding ticket and three points off my licence for going 25 km/h over the posted limit.
How will this affect my insurance? I've had friends who have gotten really hammered by a speeding ticket and others who say it made no difference to their rates.
You have mentioned that some insurance companies don't penalize for one ticket. Please name these companies. Your help is greatly appreciated.
A One minor ticket may affect your car insurance rate, regardless of demerit points.
About half of the insurance companies will not charge for the first minor ticket, while others may charge up to $500 per year, for three years.
Almost all insurance companies charge for two tickets and your rate can increase by as much as $1,500 per year.
You should fight this ticket through the court, as that ticket plus any future tickets or collisions could seriously affect your insurance rates.
I suggest you do a rate comparison between various insurance companies by going to Google, typing in "car insurance," and finding a quoting service that will quote you the lowest rate according to your driving record.
This way, you will find an insurance company that won't charge for the first ticket, which will be obvious by the lower rate.
I see your point but wouldn't turn out to be a he said vs. he said type of thing with the judge determining who was the most credible? I would say I wasn't speeding, have a good record etc. and the officer would say I was speeding. Or am I just betting that he does not show up? A reduction in the charge would not change anything, only an outright acquital would.Quote:

I would be most concerned with finding out how he clocked your speed. Seems to me it would be moving radar that was used since he was moving toward you from the other side of the road. Unless he was driving back and forth on that road patrolling while he had another LEO as a spotter running VASCAR, which I don't think it would be likely but it is the only other possibilty I can think of other than the LEO using moving radar to get a speed reading since the LEO's car was travelling toward you from the front. You said the STi did not alert at all right?
Thats why you need to disclosure. Did he actually but an "R" on the ticket anywhere? The cops in the GTA usually do the reduced thing to try and encourage people just to plead guilty since we have a very high rate of drivers pleading not guilty and trying to play the system.
If you go to trial they go back to the higher the charge.
Hummmmmmmmm??????........Isn't anyone but me going to ask happy more details about the STi and 33.8???????
OK happy, since no one else is going to ask, and I don't know (I've read all of the GOL testing but know nothing of what you speak of) what your talking about, what is the story with the STi and 33.8 constant on?? Does the STi have issues picking up 33.8 constant signals??

The crown just doesn't offer a lesser fine or pleading to a lower speed.
Even if the cop wrote "R" the crown can and will offer that you plead guilty to a slower speed or no points or lesser fine.
Yes you are right.... the speed on the ticket is what the conviction would reflect.... if the Crown offered a lower speed and you decided for a trial it would be for the speed on the ticket regardless if the cop had reduced the speed on the citation.
So if he requests disclosure and decides not to show up in court to fight it is he at risk for any further penalty or not? I dont believe he is

Just an educated guess nothing more. Dont freak out now
:) My guess on your situation would be the cop just visually estimated your speed and citated you on the visualization
