    Default software versions

While I am a very longtime radar detector user (I owned the original "Fuzzbuster" the Escort Passport, the Bel 745i) and currently own both an RX55 and RX65 I am totally confused as to whether software updates and their respective number designations actually represent an improvement in operation or whether they represent an internal company control number used for reference that may simply mate an existing vendor's component to a new vendor's component without any improvement operationally. Everybody seems eager to compare software numbers and debate the worth,or lack thereof, between the latest and greatest and previous numbers. This holds true for the V1 the RX65 and everything in between. Can someone actually state the most recent software means the best performance?? These things seem to be upgraded fairly often and since I have a very early version RX65 would I benefit at all to buy a newer version or don't bother??

I think you've just asked the 64 thousand dollar question.

Detector manufacturers claim that revisions are for manufacturing purposes, and have little to do with actual detection capabilities...while (no surprise here) some forum members swear there are detection differences between the different versions of detectors, (ie: various V1 versions, X50 ver 5 vs. ver 6.1, Sti A1M7 vs. A4M8 )

Hard to know if there are truly differences, or simply manufacturing variances.

I surmise from the lack of definitive responses that what you say is probably true. That is..nobody really knows for sure.
To the professional testers I would ask this.Since you generally have various revisions of all the major players e.g. V1..various Bel units (RX-65, STi driver and others) and also Escort units and since I have reviewed all the bar graphs and text from all the recent tests it seems that the variances in performance is random subject to manufacturing tolerances. Is this your feeling too or do you have specific thoughts on this issue??

Received this response from Escort today:

"It is good to hear from you, and sorry for the confusion! Revisions are not only based on software but for us are linked directly to hardware. Any change in components, suppliers, or software changes require a revision. Most revisions are for internal technical support and will not be recognized by the end user. Our Customer Service Department does not keep track of the revision numbers, because they will have no effect on performance or features. I hope that helps.
