I hope that it is more reliable, but doubt it since the voice coil is the same tiny size. At least they are very inexpensive! Mouser Electronics has them on order. The estimated ship date from PUI is mid August.

Here is the link if you want to pre-order a couple of them for your Bel radar detector:

Quick Q, I kinda new to soldering.

    1. what is the best way to remove the older speaker? DeSolder? and how do Desolder if needed?

    2. and when you install the new speaker, do you solder at the board, or at the back of speaker itself?

The best way to remove the old speaker is to desolder its leads at the speaker itself. Simply heat up the soldered wire with the soldering iron and then lift away the speaker wire.

Note that the new speakers which I mention are RoHS compliant. This means that they contain no lead. You should use lead free solder along with a specific soldering paste for lead free solder in order to re-solder the wire leads to the replacement RoHS compliant speaker. Note that the right speaker terminal is the + connection. You attach the red wire to this + connection. Soldering up the wires to the replacement speaker is easy. Simply put a tiny dab of solder paste onto the terminal, coat the tip of your soldering iron with solder, hold the wire against the terminal, and then momentarily hold the tip of the soldering iron against the speaker wire and the speaker's solder pad. That is all that there is to it.
Another Q, what is solder paste, I never used it before. Also, can you get away without using it?
