good look!
Hi Guys, a newbie here.
I recently got A Bel 940 and used it on a trip from N. California to Vegas.
Some 1250 miles of driving.
When I picked up the Bel 940(Fry's 162$ incl of tax) the other options were a 955 and 965.
I did some checking and it seems all three of them have the same chipset and stuff. The 955 and 965 have got additional features, but nothing more when it comes to detection.
Anyways, the unit is good, gives detection early, but beware of hills and curves.
Another annoyance is the X band alert.
Do The cops even use X band now?
There are so many military installations and also microwave towers in some regions that for miles together the detector was beeping. Good thing the automute feature was on.
It gave good Ka band response too. I was not aware of mounting practices earlier, so I put it very low, almost behind the windshield wiper... The reason being that in California you cannot mount anything on the windshield, so I decided to use stealth
But I guess my mistake, high mounted one is better.
Anyways I have seen the discussion about the law(california windshield mount ban) and I know most cops will ignore it, but I decided not to take the risk.
I was also thinking of a behind the RV mirror location, but the Dodge Avenger has a pretty raked windshield, and that location is a no do.
In India I use a Cobra base model which I got for 30$, and it works 50% of the time, I guess I will upgrade to something in 150$ range... And right now it looks as if the Bel 940 is a nice unit.
If only I could do something about X band
It should be pointed out, on Bel's website, they don't claim that the Vectors all have the same detection capability. Whether it's marketing b/s or some yet as unseen difference, they claim the 940 has "6 times the range of the imports" while the 955 has "8 times the range of the imports" from there, it goes up to "ten times..."
