Default So is mounting high more practical?

    .........

Is it always better to mount detector high for radar and low for laser?

I mean if the laser is targeting you speeding your not going to have enough time to slow down (unless you have a laser-jammer) before the signal bounces back to the gun.

So mounting high would be better to get laser detection in the area as well as better for RADAR in general, CORRECT?

I currently have it mounted low & centered on windshield.

I have my V1 mounted to the highest point of the car and I still get laser alerts with no issues even behind the window tint.

I say no matter if you have a laser jammer or not... mount any radar detector high.

    Hi kuepol,

Mounting high generally improves radar reception, yet can reduce the ability to detect laser. Personally I prefer to mount my RDs high above my rear view mirror. Here is one good thread about mounting your RD high:

A solution/discussion to mounting high (bubble tint strip)

And another thread which I created which shows my current setup and gives some clearer instructions:

Mounting a RD above your RVM

Obviously you will need a hard wire power cord.

My STI is hardwired by the sun visor and it has detected all 5 police laser hits for the past 6-7 months...

    Mounting high FTW!

Few reasons I can think off the top of my head:

-More or less better radar reception
-It's somewhat protected from the sun, especially if you have it behind, or just under the tint.
-If you mount it above the RVM, you can use the RVM as a brace, taking a lot of strain from the crappy suction cups.
-Since you're mounting high, it might be best to hardwire. And we all know the benefits of hardwires
-You should still be able to get some if not all the laser hits, unless of course you get shot in close range. Then again, getting shot with laser....

I will mount it high and test drive it, I feel that when it is actually me being targeted by laser, my detector will not alert soon enough so I can slow down. Mounting high, from this forums advice, seems to give better radar detection and still some alerts of laser being used in the area on surrounding vehicles.

Generally if you're getting a laser alert, you're the one being targeted. So it doesn't make a bunch of difference IMO.

I now agree and will change the mounting tomorrow.

Also, it's a little bit less conspicuous. From your avatar, if I were to be following you, I'd know that you have a RD, maybe even what type.

Up high, it's a little harder to spot, by LEOs and maybe even by potential thieves.
