    Default Bel 995

I have a Bel 995 that I purchased a few years ago however have just started using it again lost during a move and thought it was left at the old house however it was not. Would it be wise to upgrade to a newer detector or is my few year old 995 still good enough for the job?? Thought if I did upgrade of getting another Bel or a Whistler Pro 78. Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Or recommendations however the STI's and the RX 65 etc are out of my price range if I need to upgrade.

How is the POP detection on this detector? Have not ran across any but rumor is there is some around.

    Thanks

The 995 is still an excellent RD. Only the V1, 9500i or STi would be a significant upgrade:

Unless you are in a radar banned area (Virginia, Washington and Canada) there is no real need for the STi. You can always go with the V1 (awesome laser detection), the escort 8500 x50 or the Bel RX65. I personally would go with the V1 but seeing as I am in Canada I need to use the STi.

Most likely your older V995 has the G1S7 platform. Check the FCC ID on the underside of your radar detector. If it is a G1S7, then it is known to perform very well against Ka band radar guns and is worth using as a reliable radar detector. You can check your V995's firmware revision by holding down the two program buttons while pressing the power button to power it up. "RESET" and then the firmware version will flash briefly on the display. The only thing which I might suggest is possibly having its firmware flashed to the last and latest version for the S7 platform which was firmware revision 4.5. This might help to reduce false POP alerts (due to dirty cheap import radar detectors) when you have POP turned on.

I don't have a clue about how good its POP detection is since POP isn't used in my area. Thus I never have had a chance to test my V995 against POP guns. Hopefully others will chime in with their thoughts about how well the V995 with both the S7 platform and the newer M4 platform performs against POP.

I use the 995 and its probably the same one you have, a few years old...
I had a v1 and a few x50's and my 995 whips up on the x50's that I notice...Not much of a dif between my v1 and my 995 maybe except from the laser band....V1 has the best laser detection around...

Keep that detector just make sure it works properly and reads bands good still....Ill never part with my 995..I think I like my 995 better than anything ....

I am always one to recommend a Whistler Pro 78 (rev C) on eBay for 130 with shipping. Any Bel Vector will get the job done as well, just don't get them off eBay because you will need the warranty.
