Are you trying to avoid doing a direct wire?
well plan is to get to it hard wire one day.. but for now i have a RJ11 phone extension cord with one end male the other female. thought if i can use it just for now to help move the cord out of the way
You can do a direct wire in 30 minutes or less. The part that took the longest for me was to source the switched power. While the phone cord may work, might be worth going ahead and direct wire instead.
I may just need to find out some more info on the colour codes from the sti cable so confirm power and grn
Just make sure that the colors of the phone extension cord wires are reversed when you hold both plugs side-by-side and face-up so that the plugs are being viewed in the exact same orientation. Also, be sure to use a quality phone extension cord rather than a cheap one which has really thin wires. Really thin wires limits the flow of current which in turn causes a voltage drop to the radar detector. You will also need an inline coupler to hook the STi's power cord and the extension cord together. Both the inline coupler and either 6 or 12 foot phone line extension cords are available at your local Radio Shack.
Be very careful, I tried this and almost fried my x50.
