Default Re: Transfer Locked Out Locations from 9500i to GX-65 and general impressions

I have 2 different radar worlds I live in,

The one is where I drive a truck, thats met with kband, kaband , X and Lazer. I dont really even need a detector for this world, but the truck provides a nice learning enviornment. I never took the time to set up and see the exact frequencies involved.

I went straight to the expert mode, with the band type and level, luved it.

My other world stresses the radar detector much more, thats on a sport bike, which is the primary reason I got a detector. I luv the audible voice, and the voltage readouts , to know if trouble is brewing in the electrical system. But ear jack is a must, you cant hear nothing with ear plugs in turbulant up and down twisty road.

The V1, I have to really get the entire setup, cause I use it on a tank bag, I need both the audio module and the remote arrow module in order to see any arrows.

The isssue, thats like 3 connections going into the power port, a little bulky and imo possible connection issues because of movement from turbulance. The final negative no voltage readout.

The offers from Bel and escort provide a simple 1 package design that meets my needs as far as function, its just I need alot of sensitivity, more than I saw with the GX.

So I was about to go to the STI and Bel tells me , they are indentical to the GX and the 9500

It bummed me out, to shell out $500

I realize sales people may be ignorant to the real world facts that arent on the Post script, but Damn , I just need somthing that works.

The sti , which I hope your talking about the window version Driver, I may break down and try.

The STi uses the M3 antenna and the 9500i, 9500ix and GX65 all use the M4 antenna. The M4 antenna has slightly better on-axis Ka band performance whereas the STi's M3 antenna has slightly better off-axis performance. If your driving terrain is fairly winding then I might pick the STi. If your driving terrain generally is pretty straight then I would might pick the 9500i or ix or GX65. Yet all four of these RD models exhibit very similar performance in the real world, so you really can't go wrong with any of them each model's overall performance is at the top of the charts. The real choice is whether you want stealth or whether you want the ability to block false alerts.

At least thats the way I see it for what its worth.

    Hey Mem-TeK,

Stealth is not really a concern, I proudly displayed my Gx while recieving a warning LOL! In my truck.

It was a long straight road, for about 1 mile, then it drops off slightly, this is where I met my leo coming up that rise right as I was about to go down(BAMM!). . I reacted hit the brakes, at same time the radar went off 1/4 second later.

50 in a 40 and he said I was at 36mph by the time he went by, sounds pretty accurate. This was instant on I'm sure

On the Bike, was in a twisty curve section, but identical instant on situation, it just I saved it not having to move the foot from the accelerator to the brake (like in a vehicle) I'd already deceled to fast before the radar was fired although it was the same instant milisecond time lasp. The leo actually completely stopped in the middle of the road after passing trying to get a lock, but I was well under the limit at that time.
If that dont make ya cringe nothing will LOL!

I completely agree. The STi, 9500ix, GX65 and V1 are the top of the radar detector list.

Just to add, if you have fixed speed cams or red light cams where you live or MAY VISIT, you might want to go with the 9500ix or GX65.

I ordered a STI driver, i wish the fancy case and speaker was an option not to get, have no use for those.

Says its 40% heavier than the GX, is that true?

Yes about twice as heavy with a magnesium case.

Ever thought of getting the cheetah vizalert for your helmet? Users here say they like them.

    Hello,

I hope the thing dosent fall from mounting location, sounds like it could do some damage, kinda like mounting a Tonka truck

You know the light in the eye, just doesnt appeal to me. It tells me nothing other than some radar is going off.

Since I have to wear ear plugs anyway, the earjack Voice alerts and tones, really meet my needs exceptionally well.

I wonder how BIG AL made out with his similar problem.
Well, good and bad. When I got it back from Bel with the GPS fixed, the power button no longer worked. So I sent it back again. I will see if the power button works tomorrow.

On a good note, the GPS now locks on quickly, although I prefer the 9500i alert "GPS signal acquired". The service card said the tech repaired the GPS board.

After owning both the 9500i and GX65, my preferred is DEFINITELY the 9500i. I like the "Multiple signals detected" alert when using the Expert Meter, versus the Threat Meter on the GX65.

Oh, forgot to mention that the GX65 also twice only alerted me to a "Speedtrap" marker from about 250 feet, which would be right for a RLC or Speedcam, but not a Speedtrap. The tech did not note whether he fixed that problem.

The GX65 is going down the road............it may be someone else's bag, but not mine.

I am with you AL, much happier with the 9500i. I think this thing is really, buggy and I am disappointed in the performance and the strange things it does. Even if it is due entirely to mfg variance.

I am going to run it with my STi, which I know may cause problems. If it never beats the STi (especially on K band where is supposedly excels), it is going back for good.

You can run them at the same time as long as the front of the STi's antenna is mounted a bit more forward than the GX65's antenna and as long as both are mounted such that LO emissions can't reflect off of any metal located anywhere forward of and located within 10" of the antennas. I've tested this particular setup with my STi and all of my other Bel/Escort RDs which I either own or have tested.
