    Default STi-R Auto Mode

My wife has been running my STi-R the past few days comparing it to my IX. It has been set to highway and obviously is beating my ix hands down.

Today, for kicks and giggles, I had her turn it to auto mode just to compare to the ix (also in auto) and the STi-R would not alert to several known K band frequencies that the IX would and those that it did the IX beat it on every notification. These of course were all door openers around my home that are very strong.

Is the filtering that strong and that good on the STi-R or does something sound wrong with the unit? How does the STi-R auto mode work since there is no GPS tied to it?

Once she turned it back to highway mode all was good.

Can't the IX interfere with the STI-R?

I was going to make a thread aboout the same topic. I noticed a dramatic difference in sensitivity when the STI-R is in autoscan. according to the manual it is supposed to cut down on k band falses and I was surprised to see that the feature actually works.I believe it cuts the sensitivity down on k band. My question was going to be if it cuts k band sensitivity to the point that it doesnt alert to certain door openers wouldn't we be taking a big risk?

it is safe to run an ix with an sti-r if the sti is mounted outside of the cabin of the car.

So I would assume (should never assume anything...) that the when it is in auto scan mode it is only notifying of K band frequencies that would fall close to the 21.145 frequency range thus eliminating those frequencies that stray outside its given parameters?

I personally almost never use the auto mode even on my ix, but it is curious to me.

As a follow up, I do have my STi-R outside of my car and the ix inside near the headliner. There is about four to five feet of distance separating them so I do not think there is much chance for interference.

I run the V1 with my STi-R outside. I've run the Sti-R without the V1 on and it had no effect on range of falses and real alerts from my experience.

I have noticed this also and I there are other posts discussing the automute of the STi-R.

My Sti will alert to falses, but in auto mode some of those falses do not register with the STi-r.

Here is the last theory that made sense to me, but not sure if it has really been proven.

On some falses There may be 2 K Band door openers - one for the entrance and one for the exit. One is facing the street and the other is directed inside the store. My Sti with lesser range only detects one signal - The one facing the street and therefore thinks its a valid threat and alerts at a lower threshold.

The STi-R detects both signals and supresses the alert(s) until a certain threshold is reached. If the falses never trip this threshold - 3-4 bars on the meter - then no alert from the STi-R.

It's cool that everyone seems to be liking their STi-Rs. I have had mine for about 2 years and now run it with only 34.7 (segment 5) on and rdr off. Seems to work even better in the cold.

    EDIT:
The way it apears to work is that when the STi-R detects two signals it supresses the alert until the strongest one is about 3-4 bars. Before the ramp up fix it was Almost like instant on when it did break over the threshold, but after I got it back it seemed to have a smoother alert in those situations.
