Fortunately, X band is something I only have to deal with in the form of door openers.
If Ka reception is as good on the STi-R Plus as it is on the STi-R, you'll be amazed. Mine kicks a$$ on 34.7, which is what I mostly encounter (TTPD, State Police, Village of Kenmore).

Nice install. I don't blame you for keeping the antenna inside. I probably would too, especially since it's brand new.
I would have never thought to mount it on the dash, but it certainly makes for an easier task while eliminating the headaches. In fact, the Passat has a natural channel at the base of the glass that would be nearly perfect. The install has always been the stumbling block for me, but this makes the purchase much more plausible. Thanks for the huge tip!
Hotter on X or K Band........maybe. Hotter on Ka Band........very very likely. Hotter sitting on that dash.......definitely!
For longevity's sake, I would have gone for behind the grill before on the dash. That M3 gonna cook in the summer sun. Up under the visor would have been my choice for an inside mount to keep it out of direct sunlight and better view point.
Oh well........for now I have to conclude that your install is still better than mine since my STi-R Plus is still waiting for a build date.![]()
