To the OP - I have a 2010 S4 with Side Assist and have no problems at all with my STI-R+ with POP on or off. Additionally, I run it alongside my V1 I have installed on the rear deck. I use the V1 in big L mode with K band defeat, POP off, and the volume all the way down. It basically gives me directional info on the radar threat. Also, you may want to ask yourself if you really need POP on. I have it disabled on both my detectors since I know it's not used in my area (or most other areas of the US).
Well to answer your question then no issues for me with the STI-R+ on any setting.
My neighbor recently got a Q7 with Side Assist in the last month. I followed him to work twice since my last post here which was over 1/2 an hour drive.
My Stir-Plus does alert to the side assist with TSR off. It does not alert as frequently as the Magnum but once every 5 minutes or so it will alert to K band like it was I/O. The magnum goes nuts every 30 secs. Same experience if I randomly encounter one on the highway, but in that case I try to put some distance between us.
With TSR on however the Plus does not alert to the Side Assist - never alerted once on the 2nd day following the Q7, but te Magnum I wanted to throw out the window.
We all need to start another petition to Audi USA to get the side assist out of the police bands. It might be a standard feature soon.
GM and others also use radar in their blind zone alert systems. Can't say that I have been able to pinpoint any GM vehicles causing falses yet, though. I need to do some more testing to find out what band they are using.
Keep in mind I do not have side assist in my S4. I am picking it up while driving. When I get the RS5, if it has lane assist I will remove it and Vag-Com it out so I have no error codes.
Seems to be that if I am followin gthe audi - even a ways back, I get an alert. As soon as I am in front of the Audi alerts seem to go away, but Im not hanging around to find out.
But in the installed Audi vehicle the STi-R Plus (or any other of our detectors) should not alert regularly to this form of vehicle radar system. The radar is aimed behind and to the sides enough so that it cannot detect it. Near certain objects you may get alerts from the reflections.
Yes - I fully understand that and its a good thing for those owners - but what about the rest of us?
Audi needs to be pushed to move this out of the Police K band - Others, like me will still get the alert and you never know when a simple MFG change (or a firmware update on your V1 ) will cause your detector to alert to then alert to side assist.
There are low power K band threats out there now and more being deveopled. I assume as the detectors get more sensitive to K band - like the Magnum, people will complain about this more and more.
Plus I like to run 2 detectors for various reasons and its twice as annoying.....
