Default Behind the Grill or in front

    Hi all,

I am going to get a blinder sytem installed and had a previous post re head placement on my 2004 Audi A6. Many responses and advice was provided. Thanks a bunch for the help.

But I have seen many people state "NEVER place the heads behind your grill" but the Blinder site itself states that the heads are designed to be mounted BEHIND the grill.

Obviously, if I had an aftermarket mesh grill with tiny openings mounting behind would not be a good idea. But I have an '04 A6. The grill has wide open slots in it. The heads would fit into the grill perfectly if they were only about half an inch shorter. I'm not too keen on cutting my grill if not required as most people would be.

So, does the entire front face of the heads need a clear view of the road or are there sections in the heads that are simply housing for the transmitters that a vertical section of the grill could pass in front of without interfering with performance? If so, would I get better performance by cutting the grill so the heads could be mounted flush with the grill rather than half an inch back?

    Thanks again everyone,

    Frizzlefry

Exclamation Re: Behind the Grill or in front

First off Blinder says nothing about it being ok to mount there system behind anything

"Avoid positioning anything in front of, or obstruction the lens. The lens must project from, or lie flush with the grille."

^Thats what the Blinder website says.^

Do NOT mount the Blinder laser jammer heads or ANY laser jammer heads behind the a grill no matter how open and see through your grill is!!! Mounting any laser jammer head behind a grill or obstructing the head 1 bit renders your laser jammer useless!!!!!

Sure it will alert to being shot with laser but it will NOT jam any gun.

I stand corrected. The default product description for the blinder on many sites states that the heads are designed to be mounted behind the grill.

    So cutting it is.

    Nice bolding btw

Thanks Rob, Quite refreshing to not have to use my glasses to read your posts.
Now if I could find some fresh batteries for my hearing aids...

Wishes Rob would stop holding back and tell us what he really thinks about mounting the heads.

Sorry guys I am just trying to save people a ticket from laser while using a jammer

I went to a registered Blinder dealer and installer and the guy mounted the heads behind my mesh grill thinking that would work...Sure they alerted to laser but didn't jam my Laser Atlanta at all

    And thats certainly appreciated crazyVOLVOrob!

I am now armed with info for when I take my car in to get the blinder installed. I will have them cut the grill, no way I am going to buy the blinder only to render it useless.

Too bad the heads are not the size that the Laser Pro Park head is. That would fit right in my grill no problem! If the LPP came with two heads instead of one I may have decided to buy it instead. But one is certainly not enough for my A6 from what I have read.

Retail LPP doesn't currently jam the LTi TruSpeed I would wait until their retail version jam the TruSpeed...They only currently have a prototype that jams the LTi TruSpeed

I was just kidding Rob. I have sense enough to read all jammer threads, especially from people that run them daily. Even though I do not yet own one. I will know what and how to when I get one. Waiting to see what Blinder comes up with before I decide.

So what's the latest on that, Bro? Have there been any LIDAR sightings in OK at all yet? Any rumours? Not that I am wishing it on you, but I see LIDAR as a sort of blessing. The more laser there is out there, the less I/O there is!
