Lol Neither am I. Matter of Fact I've Only Truly Dragged Once With a Friend of Mine in Hiz "400+ HP" Jeep (Or so He Sayz). I Took em Easy, but I've Never Really Done Anything Other Than That 1 Time. Never Even Been 2 a Track or Anything Either, So If I End up Shooting Over There you'd Probably Have 2 School me In Some of the Stuff ...

Not bieng a drag racer I wouldn't know but drag racings just "stomp and go" right?? members help me??

Some guy from the vette forum said he couldn't get his C6 under 14 seconds in the quarter mile because of traction issues. I'm sure that will be me
Thatz Basically all There iz 2 It as Far as I Can Tell. Obviously u Don't Want 2 Juzt Floor it Cuz Then you'll Juzt Burnout and It'll Take u 2 Long 2 Start Moving. Best Way 2 Get Goin iz Startin Out on a Slightly Rolling Start, But then Again I'm No True Drag Racer or Anything ...

Eric, wow, I don't know if it's just the poor Youtube video quality, but it looks like that SRT-4 is REALLY bouncing up and down in that second video.

Also, I kinda wish I could hear what you're saying in the videos, I can never tell.

Hey Insertquarter, you're only half an hour away from me, that's cool. I'm not a drag racer, but I do love road courses. I'm going to a PBOC event at Sebring International Raceway next month, you should really check it out.

Yeah, definitely. Keep in mind, the GLI has formally been retired from track use and is being returned to street form (mediocre but quiet brake pads, may remove the air ducting to the brakes, that kinda thing), but I MIGHT be known to "chase" a car or two on the roads every now and again. Problem is, unlike Ohio, most of the roads around here are wide and flat. Great for dragging, but not real racing.

BTW, I'll have to remember to PM you next time that car show in Homestead is coming up. It's pretty much a free-for all, people bring whatever car they have, no sign-up or anything. My Dad and I always drive down together in his TR6. You could bring the Mustang, there are a LOT of them.

Don't Think he Said Anythin In the 1st Video, But In the 2nd Video When he Ran Up Alongside the Dude, He Said Somethin 2 the Effect Of "I Got Radar", Then Gave the Thumbz Up and they Took Off. Then @ the End he Said "Good Job". Lol I Think Thatz All he Said...

There's actually a lot of skill, both physical as well as mental, involved in drag-racing.

Traction is the biggest problem - especially with the higher-powered, "two wheel drive" vehicles like yours, but even with AWD, it's still a huge limiting factor, aside from, of course, absolute power.

Not only does tire/wheel sizing matter, but so does tire type, as well as inflation pressures.

Similarly, hitting your lauch just-right (which can be especially hard in force-induction vehicles, i.e. bogging - to see, or even better, feel, a beautiful ON-BOOST launch from a non launch-control equipped FI AWD vehicle is a great guilty-pleasure that every car-guy/gal should get to do at least once in their lifetime) takes great skill in terms of operation of controls, as well as knowing your vehicle setup and mechanical characteristics.

And even after you've taken off, knowing exactly when to change-gears for best performance, as well as keeping best traction, is yet another art all in and of itself.

As with any form of motorsport, there's quite a degree of both physical skills as well as technical knowledge and mechanical empathy needed to extract the best out of both yourself as well as your vehicle.

Heck, I even have great respect for guys who've perfected and can hustle the "rolling highway pull." Many times, guys like these have so much power under the hood that they can easily smoke the tires, even on-a-roll (there's an AWD DSM in KS, I believe, that would lose traction at all four, even in the dry, when engaged in a rolling launch at upwards of 60 MPH). Knowing where your vehicle's powerband comes into play, matching that with the vehicle's gearing and taking off at precisely the right moment....that takes skill!

    ----------

    As for the SRT-4.

I've been a DSMer since I started driving. A part of my love of these cars, which started in the late 80s and finally matured in the early 90s as I got my license, was that they were so affordable, and could be made to go even faster while still maintaining a friendly budget.

As such, the SRT-4 has always spoken to me on this "grassroots rice-burner" level. I love them.

They are some mean, mean, mean little cars, and can be made into serious street, strip, or track monsters.

    In the 2nd vid:

Look at that SRT 4's suspension take up those f'ing bumps in the road, the thing looks like it has hydraulics from 33-37seconds into the video!

BTW, erickonphoenix, I'm honestly glad that there's still guys like you around (both here on these Forums, as well as in-general).

Not many guys would take kindly to being smoked by anyone, much less post such vids. But as true car-guys, I we both know that no matter what we drive, there's always going to be someone who's packing more under the hood than we have.

It's good to see such sportsmanship still exists.

You're a true gentleman, sir, and I'd be proud to give you the thumbs-up as you blow by me. ops: 8)

Highly modified SRT-4's can be a bit surprising on the highway, just like old school DSMs as previously stated. You wouldn't know the difference between a 500hp and a 200hp one. Nice death!
