    Default Ka band issues? Maybe?

Well, I just bought the cobra XRS 9345 (yes I was on a budget. lol) and it seems to be sensitive enough to pick up stupid things like doors etc. But I saw a police officer approaching me on the highway (no obstructions). Looked at my detector... nothing. 100ft... nothing. 10 ft BEEP, Ka band at minimal strength. Is that the detector being stupid or is there a Ka radar function that has low power? IDK. I just bought it today and im going insane. lol.

Maybe the officer had the gun on his seat, but Cobras aren't known for their stellar sensitivity. Be careful riding with this RD, it may get you pwnd.

Thanks for the reply. Im not sure. I believe the radars are mounted on the window but that could just be a camera. But do you really think it would only be 1/5 warning level at like 10 feet?

Dunno, but if the radar was on and even if it was on the seat, I would think it should be close to full scale alert at 10 ft.

Seriously, you may want to look at some other detector. Can you return the Cobra, and what;s your budget?

Well, im not wanting to spend more than 150. I bought it at best buy today so I should be able to return it. Before I do so i may want to consider calling tech support? Could they possibly offer a solution? Im not sure if it would be defective or not.

For that range, popular suggestions are:

    Escort Refurb 8500
    Whistler Pro 78se
    Bel 955

stay tuned for guysoflidar.com for radar detector tests...They just finished testing and the write up is coming soon (2 weeks?) If I were you I'd wait to see what results they got and then make my purchase.

Thank you very much for all of your help! I will consider what you said. I heard good things about escorts. But before I return it I will contact the local police and see if I can test it with them.

    Cudos and many thanks!

Local police!! Unless you personally know someone, I wouldn't think that would be a good idea.

Any of the models suggested will be much better. Look at the GOL results. Escort/Bel is a top brand with good sensitivity, but slow reaction time. The Whistler is reported to have good reaction times.

Read some more on the forum, and be aware that a radar detector is a valuable tool, but it is far from foolproof. Instant on radar can be deadly, and you may want to read more about this. Also laser enforcement can be detected, but 99% of the time when you detect it, you are already clocked.

Good luck out in the middle of nowhere, WI

Go ahead and have it tested with your police. It will make them think radar detectors don't work. Cobra = Crap

With the Ka that cobras leak, I don't know how they could ever detect it or they would be going off all the time.

Take it back to BB and get a decent detector before you get something to read on the way home.

On a side note while on vacation this week I went to dinner and saw another Vette identical to mine in the parking lot. Since there was an empty space next to it I decided to park beside it. Got out and there's a Corbra in the windshield. Had to move to another spot, it was obvious they had no respect for the car.
Valentine One (3.858 Ice Cream Truck, 3.812 in Vette)
4 Head LI (On Vette) (7.11 CPU Regular heads front, HP Heads on the rear)
    9500ci (On Vette)

LI Quad (On Ice Cream Truck)

LI Dual (On SRX, 7.06 CPU)

ProLaser II, ProLaser III, Stalker LZ-1, LTI Marksman & Laser Atlanta "R" (looking for an Ultralyte LRB)

    2008 Corvette Z-51 Coupe

    Escort 9500 ix (Cadillac SRX)
