I was offered a chance to attend these tests many times but frankly could see no benefit baking in the desert and fighting off rattle snakes to do it as all the detector companies do cross checks off these test for procedures
when is the last time you ever had any leos or ANY rd manufactures at your tests to cross check them?

yes the manufacturer reps are there to "watch over" testing BUT they are not testing off the shelf units they are testing MAANUFACTURER SUPPLIED JUICED UP units.
As a consumer I would not want a manufacturer rep at a testing event in fact I wouldnt want the manufacturer to even know about the testing. you see you are only going to get real testing when done blind. meaning to take random off the shelf products and test them by an impartial group. SML does not do this nor are they impartial, so their results are nul and void.
ever see how consumer reports tests products? that is a far better method then what SML does.
as for SML still doing testing for the manufacturers wopty doo they will charge them $6-10k for the testing, yea thats real reliable impartial testing.

actually there isn't much they can "juice up" with these units other then make sure they are operating correctly and tuned properly.
They aren't hotrodded 55 chevy's ;)
I am quite sure the manufactures furthermore privately test other detectors on the q/t and and then take them apart to see what is what.
any huge unusual standout performer would be noticed by all
Of course detectors vary a bit between production batches of course. Do you expect the manufactures to bring to the test the worst of these runs ? :p
If you buy a detector from any manufacturer and are not happy with it you can certainly have checked for proper operation.

I have been using the vendetta for quite a while now and have actually been pretty happy with it unlike the Whistler 78 Se I own. It is very comparable to the Bell 995 in performance in fact. The 78SE is very spotty to say the least in performance. Sometimes it was great but more often then not it really sucked.
Hope the "new' badge engineered one is a lot better. :)
I should ebay it to make up for the money I wasted on it but it makes a real nice 35.5 radar source :D

Too funny ! the folks at the rd brand x forums are all furiously ordering the new Cobra detector 7800 to try to prove how bad it is !
Cobra's rd electronic stock just shot up more then a few notches because of this. LOL
