While using my newly purchased used X50 6.1, I noticed that the red alert light on the SmartCord is always on. I swapped in a different SmartCord, but the same results. Should this be a concern or just ignore it. Any feedback is appreciated.

So both the red alert light and the green power light are on always?
The problem is with the detector itself, most likely a bad transistor. How do I know? I fried one of these transistors once by accidentally shorting a couple of the lines together with a probe ops: Anyway, the detector had the exact same symptom...
You can ignore it as long as you don't care about the SmartCord working or not. But I would get it fixed or swapped.for a new one.
Send it back to BelEscort and most likely they will send you another at no charge. Good luck.

The problem could simply be a bit of solder which bridged across two pins where the RJ11 jack is soldered to the detector's main circuit board. That is easy enough to fix if you are really good with electronics and soldering, but doesn't guarantee that the problem will be fixed since a bridged solder connection could have caused other damage. By far the best solution is to send it back to Escort and have their techs fix the problem.
Try rotating the plug (the portion that plugs into the cig-lighter) to see if the light goes out. My cord used to do that, but after wiggliing/shimmying/whatever with the cord, it went out. I could actually make the [red] light come back on if I pressed the plug in hard enough. I'm hard-wired now though so I don't mess with it anymore.
