Same here. Auto Volume does not make one bit of difference regardless of noise level.

I've tried playing the stereo from soft to normal to loud to blaring and the volume stayed exactly the same.
Startup, alert and voice alert volume all stayed the same.
So for now it's set at max volume with auto-mute.

I'd like to hear from someone for whom auto volume works and see what differences there might be in their setup or environment.

I agree. Both the autovolume and the autobrightness features are autostupid!

Auto bright is awesome if its not mounted high. If it is it sucks...

Auto volume is fine if you have a quiet car and don't listen to music loud. keep in mind it only auto volumes the alert and not the voices at start up, or when you change settings, those stay pretty loud.
Auto volume is for loud background noise, not high music volumes.

1-volume needs to be set to a mid low setting.
2-car needs to be quiet to alert quietly
3-there needs to be loud talking or loud road noise to automatically increase volume during an alert.

    The 9500I is a gentleman's detector. 8)

The auto-brightness actually works well for me (mounted slightly higher than mid way up the windshield and centered).

I didn't realize the detector was sophisticated enough to distinguish between talking/road noise and the noise from loud music. I assumed it's simply a matter of measuring the decibel level in the cockpit?

That's a bit of a disappointment. Overly loud startup volume is arguably as annoying as alerts which cannot be muted.

I guess even if auto-volume worked properly it really wouldn't be that helpful.

It would be nice if this was addressed in a future firmware upgrade. I wonder if Escort has even had feedback about the shortcomings of auto-volume.

Auto mute and brightness both work well for me, but I've disabled the auto mute from when I was running in SpecDisplay and didn't have bars to show me signal strength. I can't say I notice auto volume doing much, but its always so noisy in my vehicle anyhow that I imagine its always just coming out full volume no matter what.

Normal talking/road noise is not overpowering in most cases so auto volume will work fine. Loud music or even mid volume is more overpowering and will max out auto volume easy. Also most new cars use the front windshield to reflect music back to the driver so its louder by the RD than it is by the driver.

Most people are not like us with loud music, i find most people keep the radio at such a low volume sometimes its hard to here (im almost deaf though).

I would say that auto volume is only good for about 5% of 9500I owners, low to no music volume and a quiet luxury car, with the occasional loud passenger.
Hopefully some day the USB will allow us to adjust auto bright, volume and speed sensitivity to what we personally like.

In my experience it does absolutely nothing. Volume levels stayed low and alerts stayed low.

I started with a volume level of about 2 bars, then turned the music on loud, then forced an X band alert. No discernable change in volume. So I thought maybe auto-volume is indeed upping the volume, but the music is so loud that even at max volume I'm not really hearing it well so it seems like nothing has changed. So I turned the starting volume down to almost nothing - barely audible. Blasted the music again and forced an alert. I heard absolutely nothing. This confirmed to me that auto volume was not working.

Oh well. This thing is still so quiet and falses so infrequently now that it's not so much of a big deal as it was with the V1.

    Lovin' it more each day.
