Default Ran accross an older model Escort Passport today

Was talking to a co-worker of mine, hes into some of the same stuff I am, and is a techie type gadget lover like I am so i asked him if he runs a radar detector in his Mazda 6. He said he has one, but its old, and the suction cups are missing so he doesnt use it, but he really liked it when he could use it because it had a sweet display. I cant find much info on it, he showed it to me, its a pretty beastly lookin thing. An Escort Passport 5000 series. Display is LCD, regular LCD. When it gets a reading it puts a bar in the middle of the screen, to represent perfectly calibarated radar, then puts a bar where its picking up the signal in relation to that, and the bar grows toward the top of the display as the signal increases, he said he gets multiple signals as well, it puts as many bars on the screen as it gets signals (multiple bogeys on what LOOKED to have been a 10+ year old detector, given its bulk and general ugliness, tho im not sure). I was impressed though it really was an eyesore, but thought it was a cool unit and had a neat readout and way of displaying info vs some of the newer ones. I wondered if anyone had any experience or had heard of these 5000 series.

**EDIT: Just did a google search and found NOTHING as far as documentation or reviews, but ebay has 2 items if you want to see what it looks like, just search for "passport 5000". Maybe its not as old as it looks, it does all bands and laser... hmmmm

Wow Paperlantern, it's a small world. My boss has a radar detector in his car and guess what...it's also a Passport 5000. When I found out about this I did a search also but couldn't come up with anything either.

I never could find the appropriate time to ask if he ever considered upgrading...

HA! Yeah thats funny he has one too. Dude i know says he LOVES the thing and wishes he could mount it again, but I guess the motivation isnt there to find some new suction cups, maybe he doesnt speed much *shrug*.

It isnt HORRIBLE, but its not as attractive as most newer ones i can say that, heck might be better, less desirable if it looks like a big hunk of junk on your windshield.

I just threw a Passport 5000 in the trash about 2 days ago. The speaker had gone out and when I took it apart to try to fix it I royally screwed it up. X and K are good, but KA band does not give much warning at all. I think a moderator on here named Bill Gerr has one he still uses. Anyway I think you can pick one up on ebay for around $30.

The Passport 5000 just happens to be the radar detector that I have. I bought it brand new over 10 yrs ago. Mine is in perfect condition as it has been sitting idle in my house for the past 8 years. Yes, it is big and heavy. I just bought a brand new car, therefore, I have decided to bring my Passport 5000 out of retirement. Since it's clunky, I'll probably just mount it to my visor. This is a neat radar detector.
