O boy, another eBay order. :? Check it out completely as soon as you get it. Do a system reset. After you have been driving with it in the default settings for a few weeks go down each line of features and set them how you wish.

    hey thanks alot!

what i originally planned was just reset everything and just set everything right away.

hmm I guess I am goning to drive a around for a few weeks then set things to my liking.

one more thing, I have heard about setting up the radar detector vertically would help the range and all... is that true? or is it just a myth?

    Thanks for your advice again.

p.s. what's wrong with ebay order?

No, do not do this. The horn on the 8500 is angled slightly upward so you want to keep it pretty level and at most a degree or so downward.

You never really know what you’re getting from ebay, there have been many horror stories here.
Definitely reset it first before your week or two of getting use to it.

if you don't mind, can you explain POP and INSTANT ON mode?

On the X50 I am thinking about turning that on... I am not sure myself.

truly I dont have a clue of what I am doing...

but yeah, you are definitely helping me alot. =P thanks!

I wouldn't enable POP, it will just cause your X50 to false. POP is not
wide spread so chances of you encountering it is very slim. Besides
if you are hit with POP they can't write a ticket with that alone, they
must switch to Normal Mode to confirm/log the Hit and issue a ticket.

As far as Instant On, this is a mode that all Police Radar Guns have.

Instant-On is a term used to describe a particular method of operating radar that can be used to defeat radar detectors

The officer puts the radar gun in "standby" or "hold" mode where it is on and ready, but not transmitting any radar. When he visually identifies a vehicle that he suspects is speeding, he switches the radar unit to "transmit" mode and targets the vehicle to obtain a speed-reading. If he chooses, he can then switch the unit back to "standby" or "hold".

Here are a couple of ways to defend against instant-on:

    1. Choose a very sensitive radar detector, so that when traffic ahead is targeted with instant-on, you'll get a warning alert before it is "your turn".

    2. Never stand out in a crowd, or you'll be the one he chooses to target. Try to follow behind someone else who is going the same speed as you are, maybe 1/4 mile behind him. That way, if you encounter radar, he'll get hit with instant-on, and you'll get an alert on your detector telling you to slow down.

    Hope this Helps

Wow, Thanks alot for explaining everything. I guess when I customize the settings I will leave POP mode off.

Do you think 8500 X50 is sensitive enough?

    Thank you.

I've had mine for over 3 years and have never gotten
a ticket.... If you use it correctly you'll be fine. One thing you have
to keep in mind though is that it's a tool and not an invisibility cloak.
The X50 has saved my Bacon to many times to count so you made
a good choice with the X50......

I would watch it for a while, ebay isn't the best place to by detectors.
I'd reset it and keep an eye on it to make sure it's not a defective unit
that someone wanted to pawn off.

Everyone on this forum is very helpful so if you have any questions
about where to mount the detector or anything else we'd be glad to
point you in the right direction.

    Sweet thanks!

So do you have any special tweaks or settings that might help? tips?

and as far as ebay goes... I read the seller's review, he had like 10 of these and has been selling them off rapidly and got good replies and such.

I hope mine isnt defective.... that would suck.. :x

    well thanks again.
